Because of the totally fallacious argument that "what consenting adults get up to in private" has no consequences for others and therefore nobody has any right to judge. Frankly, we all have as much right to judge what people make public about their sexual lives as we do about their public jokes and to argue the difference is simply illogical. The reasons most people have views on sexual mores of others are complex but I would argue that since people's individual sexual habits tend to have consequences for society as a whole (certainly as tax payers!) we have a perfect right, even an obligation to have an opinion.
Apparently some people think that it's ok - personally I don't find entertainment at the expense of spitefully belittling others humourous but I guess if you've paid for it them it must be ok.

Perhaps it's ok to chuck in a few lions and Christians if the audience have paid...???
Now there's an idea with merit

Only teasing LOL!

I'm confused too...perhaps it is an age thing.

People tell funny stories about their husbands/wives all the time - it never bothers me.

The people get up on stage and do it, Sara Millican, Jo Brand frequently have men as the butt of their humour. That's ok.

Male comedians do the same and that's sexist.

Telling non PC jokes, by their very nature, usually involves offending certain groups. Group sex between consenting adults doesn't offend anyone. It's not as if they keep phoning you up and asking you to watch.

If by that you mean make jokes about Christianity, sure that's fine I wouldn't be offended.

But if you are literally implying christians to be physically attacked by lions I would say no thats not a good idea.

Lions are well known for their remarkable tolerance as the butt of jokes I believe...

Although I was implying the latter....

Kind of double standards yes, lets call it an exception to the rule. The same reasoning is understood i think when the comic is a preacher and the subject matter extremism, because it's deemed necessary to ban certain views from public environments.

There's a lot of sensitive folk around these days. Thankfully the rest of us don't take things too seriously.

BiB

It is the deliberate intent to offend that I find unacceptable.

I recall being told years ago that one should always laugh with someone and not at someone.

Whoever told you it isn't allowed is a blithering idiot. There seems to be this daft idea among certain people that PC is a set of rules. It's nothing of the sort.

Quite. I am often VERY non "PC" but would not offend, upset, belittle, humiliate or otherwise upset others by it.

Unfortunately there are some folk in this world that would get upset at the drop of a hat. Others just take it for what it is and move on.

It's hard to second guess all the time whom may be offended by what.

I'm not talking hard core......just silly little every day things you say without thinking.

It's really silly at times.

seems that if you deem something as offensive you can cause trouble for someone which is actually probably the real motive.

It is silly and there are always going to be the "morally outraged" brigade. There has to be a line of acceptability and that's different for each person, but deliberate upset and humiliation crosses that line for me. Calling someone a shirtlifter falls into that category (and I don't like Brian).

So true. You make a comment about having a fat day and some thin as a whippet girl will get upset because she lost 10 stones last year and she doesn't like fat being mentioned - even though it was aimed at yourself.

Soon we will all talk vanilla, look vanilla and be vanilla...

(it's Monty Python so you'll probably be happy you clicked)

Non-PC joke, someone thinks they have they have the authority to stop it because they are humourless and judgmental.

Uncomforable fact - the thing is deliberately 'un-PC' (they didn't have that term back then of course), but it was/is funny. Puritans cannot handle those two things co-existing and want to ban everything just in case. After all what do they care, they always thought comedy was just silly anyway.
