Which Doctor did Ainley have the best chemistry with?

I'm torn between Davison and McCoy. Of all of them, however, I think he and Colin definitely had the weakest.

McCoy, definitely. Survival is Ainley's best performance as the Master, less panto, a much darker portrayal.

Ainley's Master was massively overused during Davison's era.

Got to be Davison. I've always thought though that ainleys version of the master was a pantomime version of delgados.

For me it has to be Davison because of the contrast. Here we had a young, dashing, vulnerable hero who was even more of a contrast to The Master than any of the other Doctor's. For me that contrast is why it worked so perfectly.

Saying that, I did like the banter between the Sixth Doctor and The Master in the two stories they had together. I also acknowledge there was a good respectable bond with McCoy in Survival because of his improved performance. He was also good in that one proper story he did with Tom Baker, I liked the physical way the Fourth Doctor reacted to him by looking away when he shook his hand and flinching anytime he got close.

However, it was Davison who worked best with him.

A tie between Tom and Pete.

A second vote for McCoy from me, also because it felt like they let him play the Master more seriously in that serial than they did usually.

Tricky. Ainley and T Baker worked well enough together in 'Logopolis' but I think of him more as Davison's nemesis for obvious reasons. (ie more stories together!) Not a great story, but the scenes between them in The King's Demons after the Master has stopped with the *outrageous* French/Welsh accent and rubbish disguise are superb. Disdain, caution, admiration, disgust...all subtely conveyed. However, I agree with people who rate 'Survival' as Ainley's best overall performance.

Ummmm....Davison and McCoy, then. In that order.

The Fifth Doctor for me. Really, Anthony Ainley worked well with each Doctor, but I felt he did best with Peter Davison. Like daveyboy7472 said, it's the contrast that works well with these two.

Five for me, it had a real Holmes/Moriarty feel to the relationship imo.
