I've been having issues with iplayer for a couple of weeks now. When streaming on a laptop in HD, the programme will stop half way through. It will allow me to go back to the beginning of the programme but when I drag the cursor beyond the half way mark on the status bar again, it won't go any further. If I then go back to the SD version of the same programme it will allow me to watch the rest of the programme with no problems. It's usually any programme over an hour long. Near enough dead on 30 mins it stops.

laptop has a 2.5GHz I5 processer, 6GB Memory, OS - Windows 8 64

I'm with Virgin.

Download speed... 20mbps
Upload speed... 1.14mbps

Ping 21ms
Jitter 1s
No Packet loss

Any suggestions for a possible fix? Thanks

would not expect any real issues with your specs esp. 6gb of ram and 20 mbps. You could try checking memory usage and adjust virtual memory. turn off hibernation could free up some ram.

Make sure you have as few programs running as possible. Windows often starts lots of programs but most are unnecessary and you can stop them starting automatically.

I am not sure any of above will help but possibly worth a try.

Problem is more likely to be a handshaking issue between PC and server and difficult to sort.

Does same issue occur if you download a HD file rather than live stream?

At 20 Mbps it will only take approx 5 to 7 mins to load an hours program.

Straight downloading probably uses some form of FTP and will be very reliable.

I've had a similar problem twice last week when streaming BBC catch-up in HD. It usually happens halfway through a 60 min programme. However, I find that I can restart the programme, scroll through to the break point and then carry on watching. On one occasion, it stopped again and I had to repeat the process. My computer, an Acer Notebook, is not so powerful and my download speed is only a steady 5.15 Mbps. However, it is devoted to watching Catch-up TV and is very clean and uncluttered. There is not much else running whilst I watch Catch-up in the Firefox browser. Most of the time I have had no problems which is why I didn't mention it before.

I believe it was a broadband connection issue. I've monitored the CPU and Memory performance of the computer whilst watching HD streams and, although it is working very hard, the computer has spare capacity. Don't tell the wife though because I would like to buy a more powerful laptop soon and I need a good excuse!
