Ray so deserved that 40!
He was amazing. The routine was so difficult - to make those shapes on ice. He really brought the spanish dance to the ice... Hayley and Beth were so good too - but Ray was just outstanding. Quote:
I have always believed Ray Quinn was the all-time very best Dancing on Ice contestant by miles. That's not to say that there haven't been other great contestants, and I've enjoyed all the series over the years but Ray has remained my favourite and this series has only served to prove that the fluidity, grace and sheer style he demonstrates is a class apart.
After tonight's performance I went in search of footage of his very first foray onto the ice in DOI and here it is: dancing to Hanson's Mmm Bop. It was brilliant and he just kept getting better from there. Do I think he deserved 10s tonight? Of course! ![]() Agree with all of your post. |

Never personally been a big fan of Ray's but oh my god that performance was STUNNING. Have to echo judges remarks about his fluidity and seamlessness rendered it an amazing performance on ANY surface. He was SO on point as well!

No I don't think he did but the judges seem to favour him. I preferred hayley and Beth's routines.
![]() He did a really good routine though. So it should have been these 3 couples in the top 3 |

I dunno on this one. Yes I suppose the routine was perfectly executed but it lacked something for me. I can't put my finger on it though. Odd.
Hayley was fabulous but her music was dire for that style of dance. |

Having overmarked Hayley the judges had nowhere else to go.
I thought Beth deserved second place ahead of Hayley. |

Totally agree. Beth, Hayley and suzanne (and, to an extent, sam) all have their strengths but none can dance as fluidly or naturally as Ray. Beth doesn't have his wow factor (although I like her a lot) Hayley is overtly 'stage school' (whereas ray doesn't come across like that) and Suzanne will have to really up her game to come close.
It's rays to lose rather than anyone else's to win. He doesn't need to do overhead lifts as he can actually skate and dance. Was his routine worth 40 - probably not. There wasn't anything really difficult or new in it. Was his skating more difficult than Hayley's or Beth's , probably yes. Can he do even more difficult things - yes - but so can Kyran and Suzanne if anyone asked them, and Beth and Hayley are advancing too. Whats going to be the mark for that when they have already thrown 40s at Ray? Was it worth 40 after Hayley's score came in? That may depend how you mark his dificulty, and how well he performed the character versus the other really good routine - performed by Hayley. I think she looked an awful lot more credible as a slapper dancing a Charleston, than he was as a bullfighter. We don't actually learn much about relative capability from the routines the better people are given, or not given. Ray doing Chasing Cars would have more problems than Kyran. Kyran, doing a similarly suitable routine in the main show, might have avoided the skate off. Suzanne could have done Beth or Hayley's routines, and got their marks. Hayley playing a ballet dancer, or Beth doing the Charleston, might have had more difficulty looking right in role. Bonnie would have looked better doing any routine with more content. Its all down to who gets given what. |

Ray's acting is weaker than any of Hayley, Bonnie or Suzanne. How you marked him tonight depended on how much credit he got for steps no one else was given to do. The three girls are all acomplished stage dancers and more experienced at selling a routine than he is too - he just has the unique advantage of not only having trained as a dancer, but having done it and succeeded at competition level.

Yes I know it is only week 4 but we are almost halfway there and I think week four and no earlier should you receive tens. Also Hayley made a couple of mistakes, Ray did not. |

I thought it was a great performance but not perfect but what can you expect when its the golden boy with the last slot on the show and the person before him got 9.5s? |

Its all down to who gets given what. The people putting the show together (Torvill, Dean et al) have an interest in making all the performers look as good as possible (those tour tickets don't sell themselves, you know). If they could have them all dancing as smoothly and rhythmically as Ray I'm pretty sure they would. Why on earth not? By the way, I think describing Hayley as a "slapper" is a bit harsh. Did you mean "flapper"?

For all the people watching the show who don't care about personalities (like myself) then Ray is the outstanding winner.
Unfortunately these shows are so much about "personalities" and what some people perceive the personality of a celebrity to be. That does affect the voting. So therefore the winner cannot be predicted. If there is any justice though - hopefully the majority of people will be wanting the best skater to win - and if Ray continues to perform as he is doing - fingers crossed it will be him...

" Totally disagree. Ray is a very accomplished stage actor having had lead roles in Grease (where he certainly sold dance routines) Dirty Dancing, Legally Blonde and Rise and fall of Little Voice (a straight acting role in a superb production I was lucky enough to see) - all since he was last in DOI. All in addition to his TV career from a child! QUOTE Was it worth 40 after Hayley's score came in? Why would anyone in their wildest dreams want to be a bullfighter in a flamenco routine? |

No. I thought his posture looked a tad camp in one or two stances and he dropped his chin a couple of times. I agree with the previous poster than they had over marked earlier contestants and boxed themselves in. They had nowhere to go.

They watch the rehearsals and have a good idea of how their final running order will look and what marks they are likely to be giving. They not only gave 4 tens but all four judges gave a standing ovation too. They obviously felt that the routine was worth 4 tens as did so many of us watching at home.

I don't know. He is astonishingly good, though, and he's the one contestant whose dance I don't want to end, every single week. Given that Hayley had got four 9.5s, yes, they had to give Ray four 10s.

I think Ray is miles ahead of anyone else. His dancing and speed is exciting to watch. Ray and Marie deserved 40 for that routine and then to get a standing ovation showed how brilliant it was.
I would have placed Beth second last night - I personally feel she is a far better skater that Hayley. I hope they give some interesting and exciting routines to Beth in future to show her potential. My favourite is Suzanne but she is being outshone by Beth and, I felt, by Zaraah who obviously didn't get public backing. |

Maybe he didn't deserve 40 but he was miles better than Beth and Hayley, and any of the skaters, and if they hadn't been so overmarked then they could have gave him 9s. It was just like watching a professional skater!

Probably not but he did deserve to have a higher score than Beth and Hayley so the judges had no choice.

As has already been pointed out - having given Hayley 9.5 across the board - they had nowhere else to go with Ray's routine - he was better than she was ergo had to have a higher mark than she did.
Beth and Hayley were both good - but for me Beth edged Hayley as she had a more difficult routine - and couldn't hide behind the "performance" that the Charleston allowed Hayley to give (comedy moves/ gurning etc). Hayley once again did a lot of her routine dancing on her toepicks in one spot - Beth's toepick parts required her to travel with them hence making her routine far more difficult. I agreed with the judges top 3 - just would have put Hayley behind Beth - they were all good - but as all 3 are former champs - that is not surprising. |
