DS BB: What Threads are Worth Opening?
BlackberryGirl
26-01-2014
Lots and lots of threads here on DS BB, and lots of them that end up being nothing more than a 're-tweet' of another vapid slag-fest that's already been expressed numerous times before.

So how do you identify the interesting threads - or posts - in amongst all the dross?

Please help!

What box is worth opening?

Ask silly Noel Edmunds

I am sure he will respect you and consider you very brave by opening any box that your great granny had a link to whilst holding a key ring you have had since childhood

Depends really. Anything slightly illiterate is often ignored because it often contains somewhat negative content.

Anything obviously negative I will take a peek, but not the whole thread..

Any intriguing thread title is worth a full read. By intriguing I mean something that doesn't give itself away either through being directly insulting, or through being an inane / lazy question that could be looked up on the internet.

I am by no means a long time poster, but have been around here on and off for quite a few years, either just reading or occasionally contributing.

It's always busy here, but like your thread infers, it takes a while to learn your own personal sifting technique.

Well on eviction nights you will see a host of new threads pop up within seconds of each other - usually with titles asking banal questions such as 'So, do you like Sam's dress?'....

I don't bother with those.

The recent threads titled 'Jasmine' by 'Scoobles/Scoobies' and 'Housemates being still' by 'redcherry' are also not worth bothering with. I mean...what do they bring to the forum?

Basically if people think their light-bulb-moment thoughts are worth a whole new thread rather than adding as comments to already existing relevant threads then these new waste-of-time-pointless threads will continue to pop up minute after minute.

One approach that can work pretty well is to think of some posters you generally think are worth reading and look at their posts, either using the search facility or by picking the "Find more posts by" entry from the menu you get if you click on their name by one of their posts.

I'm looking for stimulation first, news second, so I go for the threads by posters that I find usually have something interesting/funny/novel to add. Failing that I look at the names of the last poster in each thread. If there's a post by a member I find of interest, I will then read that thread. If they have bothered to post then something must have sparked their interest so maybe it will spark mine(as happened with this thread when I saw that Veri had posted).

I generally ignore anything repetitive, rude or ignorant. I passed perhaps 8-10 different threads on the way to yours all mentioning Lee. As Susie pointed out, most of them could have just added to the existing Lee thread rather than start another, but maybe there are posters that like that sort of thing so each to their own.
Obviously we all have our different interests, and over time you will find your own favourites.
