How are they going to fit only 4 performances in one and a half hours

Would it be silly if its only the duel performances and nothing else? There will be loads of ad breaks. Boo for the duel!

They'll probably pad it with VTs, ad breaks and other pointless crap.

Thought they did their own routine as well as the duel?

I thought the own routine was this week too. Defeats the point of having it though if the result doesn't count and all that matters is who you are paired with and if one of the 2 worst skaters gets more votes than you do.

All I can vaguely remember from last year is that Matt was skating v Shayne. Matt slipped up and just managed to save himself - Shayne gave a clean skate - and the judges chose Matt?

That was in the skate off.

Could they be choreographing their own routine for the duel?

Yes I remembered afterwards

The duel was Matt v Gareth

Judges save Matt - what a surprise

TV Times confirms that this is correct, and the 4 'losers' will perform routines they have created themselves.

Presumably this means that 4 couples will have to choreograph a routine which they'll never get to perform, whilst also training for the duel... what a waste of time and effort!

If two of them reach the final two, they could always incorporate their moves into the Bolero - which they also have to choreograph themselves

Could be worse I suppose but I find this hugely disappointing, not just because it's totally unfair but because we won't be seeing proper routines this week from 4 couples, and if they are winners of the duel, it means we're likely to miss out on some good ones! I want to see hayley, beth and Suzanne safe but I also want to see routines from them!

So a bit lame even though they will of course be skating in the duel but the style and context is always different. I will say though that the duel, stupidity of the rules aside, does usually make for some good routines to watch that change it up a little.

From the RT

The eight remaining stars take part in `The Duel', which sees them paired off against each other on the ice. The panel decides who goes through to next week automatically, and the losing contestant in each battle must skate again in a self-choreographed number, this time to impress the voting public

See that's what's so disappointing. Let's just say, for example, Ray, Hayley, Suzanne and Bonnie get through. That's 4 really good couples who we won't get to see doing their own routine which they've choreographed themselves. What a waste! Finally a chance to offer something different and we only get half of it, one of which probably from Gareth who is the least interesting.

I hope they do this again with all couples. I suppose we need to see how their own choreography pans out first with the 4 couples.

I know what you mean. I'm not sure I'll even bother watching the whole show.
