Sorry, I'm sure he's good/decent or great actor (take your pick) but he looks, well, to be blunt, a bit too old for the part.

Going from Matt Smith to Peter Cabaldi is going to put some younger peeps off their Doctor Who. Oh well, at least he's got one season before he's axed. There's always panto next year.

Lame? No. It's pointless and not even funny.
You can milk it all you want but I doubt that many will laugh along with you.

The older Doctors in the original series didn't seem to put younger viewers off.

Oh so many things wrong with this... But lets just say William Hartnell was 55 when he got the part, same age as Peter....

Yes. Many times by the same poster. Personally I'm now convinced that the kids are going to love him.

I was 10 during Eccleston's era and at the time I thought he was a bit old (haaa yes I know ) but it didn't affect my enjoyment of the show, as I was introduced to the Doctor as a funny older gent with a time travelling box, much like those watching the original series I guess. People underestimate kids, I don't think his age will put them off at all.

I think you're right. Some kids will not take to him at all and will leave the show. And to counter that other people, adults mostly, will return to the show as they hope that with Capaldi comes slightly less childish immaturity, so I guess it'll all balances out in the end.

Yes, but let's not pretend that TV in the 21st century is the same as it was in the 1960s. Lots has changed, specifically an emphasis on youth.

But it doesn't really work as a joke does it? (Because of the simple fact that Peter Capaldi isn't bald, he has plenty of hair.)

Yes, but the fact that Doctor Who is buckign that trend is not a bad thing, in fact it's a great thing. Kids are adaptable. They will go along with it, and they'll learn to be less fixated on appearance and image.

I would express my opinion about this thread and its merits but my comment would just get deleted anyway so I wont bother.

Its not a gag. Its not funny. It doesn't work in any way at all. Capaldi has more hair than CE did. Try again.

Yep. And from the same poster who has been trying this wind up since they started posting on this forum. Same old routine. Very tiresome.

Well, Lis Sladen was in her 60s when we had SJA. It didn't harm it's popularity in any way.

Actually another two words: Bernard Cribbins

My friends kid, whose only just turned three, flipping loves watching Old Jack's Boat, and Bernard Cribbins has got another three decades on Peter Capaldi
