Why not just have Hayley leave for some reason, then Becky didn't have to come back. We all know Hayley and Becky were close so why would she not return to comfort Roy?

The best logical storyline would be for Hayley to depart for some other reason, other than dying. Then Becky wouldn't need to return.

But Hayley would never leave Roy, and Julie made it clear that she was leaving Corrie for good.

Has she really said that?
I always wanted it that she would come back one day, but now no Hayley, well that is looking an impossibility now, to me anyway

This. They couldn't split Hayley and Roy up anyway other than death and the actress wanted to leave. People think it is unrealistic for Becky not to return for the funeral but it would have been much more so to have Roy and Hayley divorce or some trumped up reason for Hayley to leave temporarily (perhaps somebody being sick) and then just never come back. For Roy to survive as a character on his own there had to be a proper end for Hayley - otherwise he'd exist in limbo for years.

Sometimes people can't make it back for funerals even though they loved the person. It does happen, especially when somebody lives as far away as Becky does in Corrie.

Has there been any mention of Becky? Like a card or a phonecall?

But didn't she nearly leave Roy not too long ago when she was abroad and met someone else?

I'm not sure I buy the 'Hayley would never leave Roy' theory.....the most solid and secure of couples can break up.

Why put everything on hold because a character isn't in it anymore? So what if Katherine Kelly had returned yet Julie had no desire to return? They don't need her in this storyline, David Neilson is doing fine enough as it is.

Its time people just accepted the fact Becky isn't returning and Katherine Kelly is busy.

Roy said in Friday's episode that he would need to phone Becky as it was one of the things on Hayley's list.

Because Julie said she was leaving for good so wanted a definite end for the character and Hayley's character and her story does not revolve around Becky.

The show and its characters shouldn't dictate a storyline around another character/actor who left over two years ago.

She went off to Africa for a whole year once. Maybe she did not leave him but they didnt see each other for a whole year.

The difference here though was that within the reality of the show it was a humanitarian act and Roy and Hayley knew that she would be coming back. Kind people do these things. my godmother who is a Nurse went out to Romania for 6 months about 20 years ago to help with the extreme conditions and orphans - she still loved her husband, they had been married for nearly 30 years and are still married now. Also, in reality, it was a maternity leave so knew it was for a contained period of time. The actress doesn't want to come back or the door to be left open this time.

As someone else said, the show doesn't revolve around Kate Kelly and they can't change other plots just because she is unable or unwilling to return for a cameo.

That's different. Julie was always returning after a year. This time Julie wanted to leave for good so leaving their relationship so up in the air like that wouldn't have worked.

Exactly.

I really don't get this 'Bring back xyz' thing we've got going on DS at all. Characters come and go. None of them, (not even poor loved by all Hayley), are bigger than the great, trundling, steamroller-like machine that constitutes any soap.

... plus Becky was a selfish monster.

She couldn't handle her ale either - no way would she drink Uncle Q under the table.

Not in a month of Sundays.

Was it that long ago? Never the less, it was the real life reason that Hayley went away for a year. I think there was another break more recently, after she found Christian when I think Julie just wanted a sabbatical for some reason but again it was always known that she was returning.

I never really felt the love either tbh. As soon as she knew she couldn't have kids, she was determined to make the whole world suffer for it. Right flaky bint she was.

You, me and Becky in a drinking contest would be ace though. After I (obviously) win without even trying, I could pour you two onto a train to the Valleys and I bet she'd be up the duff before you got within 100 miles of Swansea.

He went to visit her on at least two occasions over that year.

That drinking contest sounds tidy, I wouldn't be getting on no train though - I'd be carrying you home, fireman's-lift style, before emptying you into your bed, where you'd be met by a beaming Uncle Q.

Becky meanwhile would be waking up on a train somewhere near Merthyr - all alone, penniless, and full of the realisation that she'd just met her match.

But didn't Hayley develop feelings for some doctor over there?

Seems to be soap's biggest myth that Roy and Hayley were this unbreakable couple when she clearly had a roving eye

Hated her character almost as much as people who refer to themselves in the 3rd person

True, and very well remembered Makson.

Hayley was all set to run off with some chap from Africa not so long back, which certainly told me plenty about her 'character.'

I'm starting to understand now why her poor son Christian chinned her than time.

Lol, I tend to do that Radcliffe, must admit.

Guilty as charged buddy.
