I got this response from nga.enquiries...

"Thank you for your enquiry about fibre broadband, you are connected to Banbury exchange cabinet SM/BB 11. When planning our deployment, we must ensure that the DSLAM is located within 100m of its associated telephony connection cabinet and that there is adequate access to power and existing telephony infrastructure. Also, ensuring that the cabinet does not obstruct pedestrians, or provide a danger to road-users. To further enable the location of the DSLAM, we must accurately survey for other utility underground structure and obstacles. We have unfortunately been unable to upgrade the cabinet as the existing telephony cabinet needs to be enlarged and cannot be done so in its current position. We have surveyed for other positions to move the cabinet but nowhere is available due to existing buried services in the area. Therefore, I’m sorry to inform you that the upgrade of your cabinet has been removed from our upgrade program."

Does this mean never, ever?!!

It's like it - ours was the same, there was no space for the new cabinet and they "...couldn't find a new location." I went via my local MP who put me onto the Next Generation Manager for our town and he pushed for redeployment elsewhere but the people who own the land didn't reply.

We've now been removed from the plans - unless we move house that is.

The Government should step in. I'm sure if they wanted to put something somewhere they would buy the land by order.

That what will happen in year to come when simply everyone else has it, so why not just do it now?

I'm still waiting myself for a date that is ever changing and never getting anywhere and no one to get answers from as to when.

I had a similar problem. Every cabinet apart from 2 (out of about 15-20 cabinets I reckon) in my village was upgraded. I got in touch the the same people as you and they said it wasn't commercially viable to upgrade them. The thing is, there's a new housing estate just been built next to me and half is able to get fibre, the other half isn't. The half that isn't was put on to our cabinet but for some reason it still isn't viable. Interestingly though, it appears that the half of the new estate that hasn't been upgraded is also the half that is mostly housing association houses (theoretically less well off). I'm not sure if BT take that into account when planning but it seems very odd and very unfair for those like us that have been waiting for faster speeds for years. So, basically, we're stuck with 2.5-3mb broadband until FTTP becomes standard in about 20 years. We might be upgraded then!

My young family just adds to the need for greater broadband performance - Xbox, Wii, Laptops etc...

Self-serving and not acting in the best interests of the country. But that's these private firms now, they have taken over the role vacated by unions.

The difference is that people can choose to use other private firms, and the ones that don't serve their customers go bust.

But BT are saying they cannot find the space for the dslam cabinet.

Yes probably if they threw enough money at the problem and recabled everyone, FTTC could be done ... So Cadam should talk to your mp.... But there could be an option to go wireless .....

Also cannot get FTTC but my problem is being to close.
The download is OK at 20meg but uploading sucks.

If they can perch it on the edge of a very small pavement in the most silly position imaginable, like they have done with my cabinet, I'm sure they could squeeze in it somewhere.

Thy aren't saying that. They are saying they can't find a new location for the copper cabinet. Not the DSLAM.
