Hudl - Value? IPad Mini - Overpriced?

I purchased a Hudl just before Christmas when it was in the Clubcard boost so it cost £60. I travel a lot for work so I wanted something to watch films/tv and general internet browsing/e-mailing. Decided to buy one as it was so cheap if it got broken it wasn't much of a big deal.

I've been massively impressed with it. It's fast, battery life is excellent and it charges very quickly. The screen, picture and sound quality are all great to the extent it's pretty much replaced my digital radio at home

For me the main downside to it is that it isn't compatible with Sky Go, but that's the case with the bulk of Android Tablets bar the 'bigger brands'

I think the comments about the screen size being too small is a fair one, I find this sometimes when browsing, but I'd rather a smallish tablet which fits in my coat pocket and doesn't take up much space in my hand luggage. I have big hands and fat fingers so bought a 99p stylus from E-bay and it works perfectly

My previous tablet was a 1st Gen iPad which I still use, but not as much. The larger screen is nice, but I prefer Android and I like the fact the Hudl takes an SD card

Hope that helps

Thanks all for comments! Still have not decided - would go for iPad if it were cheaper but Hudl looks like the more practical choice for taking on holiday etc. There is a Tesco close to a John Lewis so might venture out for a bit of hands on - if it stops raining!

FWIW for others, JL do a Samsung Galaxy Tab3 quite cheaply (depending on colour!) but seems to get quite a lot of criticism in the reviews.

Got my Son a Hudl for Christmas. He has Sky Go on there and watches it all the time. So I'm not sure what the issue is for you? Loaded it straight from Google play?

Yup, the official tablet update for SkyGo was launched December 3rd so there should no longer be any problems...

If it were me in the market it would be between the Hudl and the Tegra Note 7" with a Nexus 7 being an outside chance. The iPad wouldn't be a contender but that's partly due to me having a 1st Gen iPad which has been hobbling along for the past year. I'm not sure I'd throw too much money at another tablet like that.

The Hudl is the absolute best of the budget tablets. Its not an iPad.

Weeeeell... Apart from the lower screen res the Tegra Note 7 is arguably a lot better for the sake of 10-20 quid more or 20 quid less (depending on when/where bought) but from what I've seen the Hudl is very good.

Decision! Have just bought iPad mini from John Lewis quoting price match from Argos - £219.

Is this the 1st or 2nd model?

Looking on the site, it's the old mini (16GB Wi-Fi).

That's the A5 chip mini so it's the old 1st gen model from 2012.

Yeah, but for an Apple device it's not a terrible price.

How can you have a price match for old versus newer?
It is thus 'unmatched'.

The original iPad mini is still a current product sold by Apple.

It's a price match for another retailer. John Lewis do those all the time, without the need for the customer to ask for a price match (a rather long and tedious process these days).

Thanks! Just loaded Sky Go on to it and it works perfectly.
