They are both good at their job when they are given the ability to do so. One major part of that is the amount of time they have.
For at least the last 2 BB's (+ celebs) the interviews are far far too short. Given them a bit of breathing space as well, give them 5 minutes to recover, show whats going on in the house if you have to. And when it comes to the final make it 3 hours long if you have to.

As for BBLB it needs to actually get back to what it used to be good at. Get rid of the silly phone-in bit, get rid of the silly tasks related to things they did in the house. Doloads of behind the scenes, show us the planning for future tasks, show us extra bits we haven't already seen. Having 'celebs' commenting is fine but make sure you actually get people who really have actually watched it, and I mean beyond the highlight shows.

There is so much more we could actually get just by looking back.

Well we've gone majorly off-topic with a subject covered here several times, but anyway:

Agree it's the format that's restricting their talents - Davina especially - but think the interviews are too long rather than too short.

The main problem with the eviction show is they've become just highlights with the phone numbers for Davina to read out. The format for earlier series was much better.

Moving Davina outside was also a mistake - the show works much better with Davina studio bound with possibly the friends and family, then moving through the crowd to collect the evictee.

The regular negative reaction of the crowd has also damaged the eviction shows - and Davina may try and pass it off as booing but it's quite obvious she feels it unneccessary. This makes the interviews worse as the evictees automatic response to the booing is to become quite cagey. On the other hand they also know it's worth saving the juicy stuff for the tabloids!

As for BBLB I agree it's the format that's hampering Dermot as well. I guess they have to decide whether or not it's wise to do the same behind the scenes stuff every year, but the show now seems to be quite losely connected to the show.

I don't think the phone-ins should be axed - but they need to be longer than a minute over the credits and cover a better range of topics - not "Ask the Evictee", "Ask the Evictee... Again!", "Who will be evicted (Tues)", "Who will be evicted" (Fri).

Moving it to C4 also meant it's lost it's purpose as a spin-off show - and the creation of E-Forum also took away some of BBLB's territory.

I think now it's more unlikely than ever that Davina will quit Big Brother (all her other TV work has dried up). However, the format of the shows she presents need to be refreshed for her to remain an essential part of the show.

And P.S. Ditch the "You are live on C4 - please do not swear!" tagline - it's just corny!

That's just a spun way to say she's not good enough to make the format work. What's the evidence that she'd be good if the format changed? Streetmate was the only show she was any good at, and all it showed was that she was good at shouting and acting enthusiastic -- the two "talents" she's been living off ever since. I saw her try to present the Big Breakfast, and she was rubbish. (Dermot was better when he tried it, but still nothing special.)

I suppose shortening the interviews is the sort of format change that would help her , since she's so poor at them.

That attitude -- that the interviews need the "juicy stuff" to be interesting -- is one of the biggest problems with the show. Davina wasted much of Stuart and Michelle's interviews trying to get "juicy stuff", when the interviews could have been much better if she'd gone on to something else.

there seems to be alot of ?knowing? what Davina's not good at...but no suggestions to what? is suitable..

what do people want? eh!

anyways, she's staying with BB till the end..it's too late for producers to change presenter..
like or dislike..because of familiarity, there would be a massive gap if Davina was replaced..
ahhh!..she's family now)

I'm not really interested what Davina is best at tbh, all I know is she is a shouty trout with a small brain. If it werent for BB she'd be working in a chip shop, maybe selling a bit of weed on the side...

btw:
is? there something lowly about working in a 'chip shop, and doing a bit of weed on the side'

But isn't that true of pretty much everything on C4?

Is C4's audience share ever over 50%?

Most of the people who tune then turn off when they realise it's not worth watching because it's gone beyond being stupid.

I don't think Dermot gets that many viewers whatever channel he's on. He's a nice enough bloke but seems to do all his presenting in a children's programme type stylee.

I think he gets loads - thousands and thousands and thousands of "viewers" whenever he's on "it" .....

I got bored stiff with BBLB during BB4, watched it once at the beginning of BB5 then haven't watched it since.

All those stupid little games, stupid 'fans' and stupid 'experts' ..............who cares what horoscopes or feng shui tells, or rather don't tell us, about anything.

Who cares what Team Handsome or Jase's Mates think about anything.?

Bah ! humbug..............put The Simpsons on instead.

Dermot is OK, sort of, he was OK on that SAS type reality show he did, but I've never seen him on anything else. He seems as though he could be a cynical observor rather than a cheerleader and I think BBLB should be the anti-BB BB show

Well here it's a pronoun used instead of "Big Brother's Little Brother" as it's already been established that's the show being discussed so there's probably no need to keep saying "Big Brother's Little Brother" every time you want to refer to "Big Brother's Little Brother".

Well, you were replying to me and I hadn't mentioned BBLB, just Dermot, so, grammatically, the pronoun was insufficient .....

Evidence? What are your examples of Dermot on BBC 1 or ITV 1 but getting low numbers for that time slot?

The evidence, is trying to even remember a TV series that Dermot has actually presented, on either of those channels.

If the BBC thought that he could pull in viewers they would have wasted our money by signing him up on a multi-million pound contract, like they did with Johnny Vaughan and Graham Norton............what a good investment they've been.
