What can I use to get black icing for piping words etc onto a cake ?
Black liquid food colouring just turns the icing dark grey.
Is gel best ?

If it's just a one off I'd suggest something like this for both speed, ease and cost: http://www.cakedecoratingstore.co.uk...FZShtAodWVgApg

Black icing is notoriously difficult - you need LOADS of dye. For fondant I've always used cocoa powder and Sugarflair extra Black paste http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/12084...f13=80&ff14=95.

Don't make more than you need so your colouring goes further.

I have used renshaw products in the past, colours are pretty good I found. You can get them in several places I used to buy from here http://www.craftcompany.co.uk/ingred...FWoOwwod-UoADg

Thanks for the replies, but I want it for making Spiderman cupcake toppers, and I need to pipe the black lines of Spidermans' mask.
