First impressions from England. Meryl and Charlie are ringers (they even have the finely chiselled features that great ballet dancers have), and should provide some great dances, loving Meryl's turns. Derek's contractual clause to win won't be hindered by having a disabled dance partner ; I wish she had different prosthetics, more realistic looking limbs are available, nonetheless the girl can dance. Billy Dee and Diana for the early bath, although Diana can dance a little.
Hi Richwood. If you have a look upthread a little, Lili posted some interesting articles about Amy's prosthetics. Not sure they can do all the things she wants to do with those 'cosmetic' ones. (Not that I have any actual insight into that, you understand - just reading between the lines ). I do think the increased visibility of Paralympians and others on our screens has really helped with a broader view on what 'looks right'. I know that some folk with prosthetics (especially the fancy 'bionic' ones) would rather have the mechanics and electronics on show than use a fake hand or foot, but appreciate there may be situations where it might distract. It will be interesting to see how they approach the costuming for her.

I think Amy's proesthetics look fine, didn't distract on the dance floor, her legs were covered, don't know if that will be the case each week. Think part of the point is, for her to show her ability and inspire others. Maybe she's not that bothered by the cosmetic effects of other prosthetics. Think she is testing different ones out and helping design some too. Derek was a bit worried about the feet popping off last week, they did look a tad flimsy, but obviously need to be flexible to dance with.

Hi Fridgesoup

Have followed the links about prosthetics, thanks. The reason I made that comment was that when the much maligned Heather Mills was on DWTS and Dancing in Ice in England she had a realistic looking prosthetic leg and did quite well on both shows. I now understand that maybe use is more important than ornament as a criteria for deciding which prosthetic to use.

I think Charlie's tango was the best this week. Len was ridiculous... 7!

I thought it was fiery, it had lots of sticato, aggression, passion.

It should be a 10. I would given a ten.

Len picks up about breaking hold in this routine, there were worse for this in the past.

It 's a fair mark, no one has been getting ridiculously high scores this season, and he gave valid reasons for it.

In the last VT package before Witney and Cody's dance, you saw Witney, also teaching a tango, say repeatedly about staying in hold, no lifts etc.

It's not fair to have a "derek" rule where someone gets high marks while breaking the rules, and the people twho stick to the rules are punishesd because they can't have the flair and tricks.

I'm hoping it's the start of a more consistent, accross the board fair judging this season.

From the titbits I have seen on ABC boards, he took umbrage to his package on the first show and walked off set. Don't know anything about the guy tbh, but heard he made some unfavourable remarks about ex-girlfriends dating other players being 'sloppy seconds' which seemed to cause a furore at the time. Other than that not sure, but suspect from what he said, he was labelled the bad boy and it sealed his fate. Some seem to not be keen on him, as I have no prior knowledge of him can't really say what the problem was
I was just reading some conspiracy theorists interpretation of events....

....pinch of salt required ...

....The sloppy seconds remark was a fairly mild example of the trash-talking that's commonplace in Sean's sport but Sean was assured it wouldn't be shown as part of his DwtS VT, hence the row. They knew he was second from bottom in the combined vote and sprang the double elimination to get shot asap.

(Don't suppose he was going to last long anyway - unwilling to 'play the game' )

Carrie Ann would like to see Cody with someone taller? That's constructive! I felt a bit sorry for Witney.

I didn't like Erin when she was a contestant and I still don't like her. I find her brash and cold.

I was fine with the marks but I am curious about what Len said. I'm assuming the real reason was to create a bit of a story or show he holds Charlie to a higher standard, or whatever, but is he right about them not being allowed to break hold? . Whitney seemed to think so in the training VT with Cody, so it must be right, but I was under the impression DWTS (vaguely ) adhered to American Smooth guidelines and thought 'out of hold' was fine under those rules. Where have I got mixed up?

American Smooth rules count for Foxtrot, sometimes Waltz, as they're the two of the 10 dances that are used professional as the base for an American Smooth. Quickstep and Tango aren't used in that way, and as such they stick to standard Ballroom competition rules

Lol! What exactly is she supposed to do about it?

It would have been more helpful to say, 'You're much taller than Witney, so you need to.....' ....and actually give some advice. Perhaps she had the switch thing in mind

Thanks, but still not sure as I thought AS covered all but Quickstep so put my nerdy hat on and found that...

...deep in the darkest detail of the rulebook it says this about tango (at Gold medal level):

8.2.2.3.4 Restrictions
8.2.2.3.4.1 Partners may completely separate.
8.2.2.3.4.2 No more than 8 measures of music may be danced in Open, Side by Side, or
Shadow Position, before returning to a Promenade or Closed Dance
Position for at least 2 measures of music.
8.2.2.3.4.3 No lifts.

Praps DwtS just has its own rulebook

The conspiracy, doesn't sound, way off the mark, a whiff of truth somewhere in all that. It was a bit weird, how they suddenly decided to eliminate two celebs throughout the show.

I think CAI was picking on the wrong person. Cody seems to want to do his own thing and has a bit of the Craig Kelly about him (thinks he's a better dancer than he actually is, in the ballroom genre). He seems to be trying to wing it with his own moves, in the routines. Don't think he managed to pull it off in the tango. Poor Whitney, got targeted for his height, huh. Not very helpful, think CAI needed to tell him to buckledown. I felt their issues were more to do with him not learning the basics, he looked quite sloppy. Alright there is a height difference but think that's the least of their worries. He has ability but Whitney seems to struggle to harness it.

BIB Ha! the ultimate put down . Agree with what you say about Cody. He just irritates the heck out of me, from his horrid droopy-crotch jeans with the bandana hanging down the back to his gangly spaghetti limbs and personal take on the dances. I know he's only young, yada, yada .. but, Gah! He makes my teeth itch!

That was a bit mean, wasn't it. He's no where near as bad as Craig tbh. He seems to be influencing Witney and I don't think he's doing her any favours dance wise. Saying that he will probably win by a landslide, so what do I know. I did like him to start with, but yep the knee crotch trousers are 'winding me up'. He needs to sort out his posture, particularly top line and then try and learn the bliddy basics, he's doing 'pop' ballroom at the moment.

Then again, some of the pairings, have diluted their dancing down, to minimal amounts of ballroom steps, so he's in good company.

How on earth did Billy Dee survive lol it was hilarious when he survived and they zoomed on Diana's face in the sky box. It was pretty much "Oh ****"

Danica's samba was fabulous.

From what I can gather you can now vote for switch-up pairings on ABC, not just twitter. Having a go and hoping it is registering. Want Maks with NeNe, as I may have mentioned once or twice before.

I got all excited, but it took me to a window to register for twitter which I didn't do. (I was going to support you in your wish and also vote for Emma to have Charlie ).

PS: Reading over at PureDwts, they reckon the spaces mean the votes won't count, so might be a good idea to delete the spaces after the hashtag so... #DWTSNeNeMaksim not #DWTS NeNe Maksim
(No idea if they're right about that)
