I have watched DWTS for a few years now and I watched the year that Erin and Maksim were competing together, they were the couple I wanted to win. Erin and Tom get on really well and I believe that they have worked together before on a spelling programme, I may be wrong. I am really happy that Erin has joined DWTS.

I wanted Erin and Maks to win that season as well it just felt awkward at the announcement but then with the sudden axe of Brooke and the rumoured tensions behind the scenes it isn't a surprise.

Funny enough Maks is back with rumoured he took Derek's partner and Erin has taken over from Brooke who happened to be one of Derek's dance partner not saying Erin didn't audition or didn't deserve the job it just a funny coincidence it looks like tptb would have done anything to get Maks back and to be honest I didn't miss him

I'm definitely supporting James & Peta this year on DWTS - they look amazing and James is already making a great start in dance rehearsals - I think his foxtrot will look absolutely stunning. #TeamJeta FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted Erin and Maks to win, too (though the supposed showmancey stuff got on my nerves and I've since had my fill of Mr C ). I'd no knowledge of Erin before that and none since, so to me she's just someone who seems to have a ready wit and plenty of chutzpah. No bad thing from where I'm sitting. I'm afraid I found Brooke a bit lame and wooden - but then again, I only know her from the show, so all the extraneous stuff is lost on me. I can understand if the cast and crew feel a bit put out on her behalf. It's right they should feel loyalty to 'one of the family', but I do hope the slightly shabby way Brooke's been treated by production isn't held against Erin. She at least deserves a chance to thrive or fail on her own merits. Time will tell .

Both Brilynn, the blind girl, and the girl from the Boston Marathon bombing, Adrianne Haslet-Davis, said Derek was their favorite dancer, Adrianne said her idol. But Tristan would have been a wonderful choice for either. I doubt they took Meryl away from Tristan to give her to Maks or they wouldn't both have been listed as returning pros on the 26th. JMO.

Since Maks turned down the permanent judging job, I guess one could say we kept Len and lost Tristan?

Meryl Davis is listed as 5'3, same as Amber Riley. Kellie Pickler is 5'1, and if that's the season Maks asked for Derek's partner--it was never specified when he made that request--that would have looked even more odd than the 11-inch difference with Meryl.

What do we think of Val's new hair-do?
It looked better when it was styled, on GMA but those curls remind me of the days of perming hair, not a great look!

Some of the males, seem to have gone quiff-tastic, this season and not all of them have successfully pulled it off imo. Mark looked particuarly funny, theatrical I suppose but OTT.

I might try watching this, I haven't seen it before is it much different from SCD?
You should definitely give it a try! It's all very recognisable from Strictly, but if you're a stickler for the rules and a traditional approach, you mightn't like it so it's best to just go with the flow and not make comparisons . They're mostly overly generous in the judging and hand out 10s like sweeties (but SCD's heading down that road, too ). Len is the baddie, Bruno is a heightened version of Strictly-Bruno and Carrie Ann cries a lot. The host is a thousand times better than SirBF and this season sees a new side-kick...

Ballroom is all in American Smooth style, they favour the latin dances and there are SYTYCD style innovations/abominations () like contemporary, jazz, fusion, trio dances, mash-ups, hip-hop, bhangra, team challenges, instant dances and disco. (Disco!! Pah!!! ). But don't worry, they don't do all of those in one season, though contemporary and jazz do seem to have become fixtures . I'd love to hear what you think of it! (PS some of the abominations are great )

I know its a long time since I've posted but I'm looking forward to this season of DWTS. There is a right mix of people and it'll be great to see Artem in the dance troupe although whatever happens with him after is questionable.
I think I'll be supporting James and Peta this season as I have always been a big fan of his and was really surprised he signed up for it. In the interview he did seem a bit full of himself, its not really like him but he is massively competitive so he will be expecting to do well. He can move too, I know its only 'boyband' dancing but he is good and I expect him to go far!

The other couples are quite interesting, not sure who else will do really well yet. Not sure of the whole partner swap thing but at least its not for too long.

As for pros / partnering I think they probably waited until the judging panel was sorted they are well known for leaving decisions on pros to very last minute & I heard that it isn't confirmed until it is announced on GMA

Didn't realise Kellie was that height or Amber tbh

Did I miss something or maybe I'm deliberately forgetting but what pork pie hat??

The only thing other than James coming across a bit of himself is that his partner is Peta and personally she is one of my least fav pro because she always seems to have a showmance with good looking partner which James is & there are rumours already and she makes the choreography about her but you never know as long as she remembers the basics and doesn't rely on tricks like last season they should do well and they will get votes.

If the troupe was the way it was before the changes I would look forward to seeing Artem dance but if it is the dancing to the ad break thing it is a waste of his talent

The one I don't like, lol can't find a picture of at the moment, this one isn't too bad, he's worn, one similar and looks a bit like someone sat on it.

Yeah I've noticed that too and have started to take a slight disliking to her. Anyway he did have a girlfriend up until recently so I guarantee it's nothing more than a fake showmance for the cameras. That's true but I'm sure he'll get the votes from his 'obsessive' fans regardless even if the basics aren't there!

Would be a waste for him if it does work like that but I suppose for him any work would be good and would showcase some of his talents!

You're right, they often do leave pros dangling, I wouldn't necessarily say last minute, as many of them for several years now have rehearsed with their partners even before the pairings are announced on GMA. When Derek was rumored to be dating Nina Dobrev, an insider some suspect was his publicist to know so many details about his schedule, including exact flight dates and times, said he and Amber did extra rehearsals in LA before GMA so he could spend more time in Atlanta with Nina when some of the cast flew there after GMA.

Tristan said TPTB always assured him he'd know in advance if he had anything to worry about. His name was leaked on the 26th as being a returning pro--the same day Maks reportedly agreed to return.

Derek shed a bit of light on the process when he revealed in interviews and reiterated in his TV Guide blog last season, "As for next season, I don't know if I'm coming back yet. It's too early to say. You never know what will happen. Last year at this time, I had planned to sit out Season 16, and I was thisclose to doing it. What's crazy is the chain of events since then. I was literally about to sign off saying I would take the season off, but it all changed when I visited my mom in the hospital. The woman who shared her room with her kept telling me, "You can't not do the show!" And I got this feeling inside me that maybe she was right and I wanted to come back. I called the producers and they were like, "Derek, we need to know in the next 20 minutes," and I finally said, "Yes, I'm doing it." I came into last season with Kellie with a completely different outlook — it was almost like a reboot for me."

According to his Instagram photo and this article, that hospital visit with his Mom was February 19, 2013. So their edict to him, "We've got to know in 20 minutes" was a full week earlier, in the respective timeline, than Maks' decision of February 26.

After a mooch about the internet this is what I've pilfered....

Danica's mother had (has?) a dance studio and in an interview at least 3 years ago, she mentioned taking up ballroom dancing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImDgk...ature=youtu.be (about 2.25 in)

The Switch Up is likely to be in week 3
http://uk.eonline.com/news/517406/th...r-change-twist

NeNe was an exotic dancer in a former life

Derek's gone to Sochi

First dances:
Danica - http://instagram.com/p/lNoRsxKQAy/
Meryl - cha cha
Charlie - Contemporary

Apologies if any of that has already been mentioned... Any more sightings of first dances?

wikipedia has:
comtemporary - Sean, Candace, Charlie
foxtrot - Drew, James, Danica, Diana
cha cha cha - Meryl, Amy, Cody, Billy
nothing against NeNe's name, so contemporary perhaps (eek!) to make four each?

I notice that Kristyn Burtt announced that Julian Julz Tocker would be joining the panel of Afterbuzz. I think that is a good thing because Julian is a ballroom and Latin champion and I thought he gave good commentary last season when he was a guest. In one of the episodes he said he lived and worked in London for 7 years and that he was asked to be on Strictly (I don't if he meant the troupe or as a teaching pro) but he told the producers he would rather do DWTS and so he was brought into the troupe.

No one has commented yet but I cannot help but notice that the troupe has been reduced to 2 couples now. I think it will be better for them now because they will have more exposure, just don't know how many spotlight dances they will be doing.
