My rather old LCD television only has two HDMI connections and these are both in use (Sky box and WD Live player), so please could somebody recommend me a new DVD or Blu Ray players with a scart connection?
There are lots of multicoloured connectors on my existing DVD player, but no scart. Can I use these multicoloured connectors to connect to the TV? If so, please could somebody tell me what they are actually called, so I can find a appropriate cable on Amazon?
Many thanks for any replies.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-HDS3...dp/B0020426AG/

you are better using an hdmi switch that lets you connect up to 3 hdmi devices to one hdmi socket on your tv as hdmi gives a better signal than scart

if you look around you can sometimes get these as low as £5. check ebay for example. the cheap ones don't need power. i've been using them for years as i have so many devices

if you really want scart then you could pick up a decent second hand dvd player for a song as most people are switching to bluray. you can get bluray players for about £30-£40 now if you shop around and keep your eye on sales

Not at all true, for an SD source (such as a DVD player) RGB SCART is just as good as HDMI.

The current small Sony DVD Players (DVD-SR170) still have a SCART socket, so would work perfectly for the OP - but I would expect pretty well any UK (or EU) DVD player to have SCART.

Thanks for the post. However, my current Samsung DVD player does not have a SCART. Not sure if this is rare or not.

Not at all true as an RGB SCART connection does not give you digital surround sound.

Not when it's plugged into your TV it doesn't!

Yes, it is a UK model, purchased in 2009, a Samsung DVD-H1080 DVD Player.

OK, I've had a look at the instructions for it, basically it's not a UK or EU model, just an American or elsewhere type (hence no SCART) - this isn't to say that Samsung didn't sell it as a UK model, just that it's not specifically one.

But it does have Composite and Component out, you could connect it via Component if your TV accepts that (most do) and requires 5 phono leads. Alternatively you could connect it via Composite (but that's the poorest connection), either to a Composite input on your TV (three phonos) or to the SCART socket (three phonos to SCART lead).

Depends on the TV.
No matter what TV or home theatre setup, the best will be Dolby II prologic but it will not be Dolby Digital.
The RGB TV signal may be digital but the scart only carries analogue sound

The point I was making was that an HDMI signal passed through the right TV to a sound system will carry and play digital surround and not just the DPL which a SCART connection limits you to.

But if you have a half-decent sound system then normally you would connect source devices to the TV through that so the question is moot.

I actually have the reverse problem. All my units are connected with HDMi leads so I only get digital sound. This means I have no analogue outputs to connect to my remote speaker transmitter so I can listen to the TV sound for instance when in the kitchen.

Does the TV not have analogue RCA out? Or a headphone output? Or a SCART socket with audio output?
