I used to enjoy watching this show and would like to see it return. Granted Miracle Day was not well received but I think if it returned to Cardiff with new members alongside Jack and Gwen it could be good. Plus it would fill the gap between Christmas and the Autumn when Doctor Who returns.

Only if it goes back to the Series 2 style but with the quality of Children of Earth.

Miracle Day was an abortion and completely forgot what the show was supposed to be about.

I have to agree. Miracle Day was terrible. In my opinion it had good ideas, but the execution was diabolical. Not to mention that it was way too long and the ending was a complete letdown.

Having said that though, I would still welcome Torchwood back with open arms. It's about time we had a new series. However as you rightly say, it needs to go back to what worked.
Sadly I don't think we can expect a new series anytime soon, if at all.

Shows like Doctor Who and Torchwood only work and thrive when looking forward, not back. As much as I enjoy the early series of Torchwood and loved Children of Earth it would be a mistake to try and replicate them. In its own way Miracle Day was trying too hard to copy CoE - extended serial miniseries, Gwen monologues and an encompassing moral dilemma. It didn't work out, even with a bigger budget, popular writers, famous actors and locations ranging from Wales to LA, Buenos Aires and more.

Torchwood 5 would need a whole new direction rather than getting boggled down in its past. Wrap up Gwen's story quickly or don't address it at all. A return from Jack could work but is also not necessary. I'm thinking bold - either establish Torchwood as a presence in the future and have a non contemporary future spin-off, or do a period-drama Sci-fi show...a Victorian alien hunters if you will. By all means delve into moral dilemmas but remember that the show is Torchwood... Not Barrowman and Miles.

Just my two cents.

Absolutely love Torchwood. Not Miracle Day, but especially series two and CoE were really good, in my opinion. I love seeing the darker side of Doctor Who - it really puts the main show in focus. As for a return - yes please!

Long overdue for a return, it would have to have Jack and Gwenn back, they are the heart of Torchwood. It would have to be set in the UK, forget the USA angle altogether, and should return to its role as protecting the earth from alien interference. We need to know what happended to the rift and the Torchwood archives, or was it all destroyed when Jack was blown up. No more running and hiding from the government, after all Torchwood was set up by Royal Charter. They should just be left alone to do their job. Bring in three new characters, we need a scientist a doctor and a "heavy" If its not going to be set in Cardiff choose a new city, somewhere where Torchwood is unknown. Underneath the Sage in Newcastle/Gateshead would make a great location. (have a look at the Sage its a fantastic futuristic looking building)Who else would I like to see back ? the obvious would be Martha and Micky but how about an alien character as well. He/She/It could play the scientist role and remain in the HQ so as to get round the problem of an alien appearing in public.
Loads of questions remain unanswered such as what happened to the Weavils, is the rift closed, was all of the hub and its numerous underground chambers completely destroyed, what about all the alien tech they had stored, in fact the opening story could be about Jack returning to the remains of the hub via a secret entrance that only he knew about and collectingf enough "stuff" so as to start up again somwhere else. There are dozens of stories still to be told about Torchwood, all we need is for RTD to want to return to that world.

I liked Miracle Day, in fact that is why I got the complete box set, I missed it on TV.

Be good to see it return but with a new cast. Couldn't stand most of the characters in the original. The only time I liked it was when Martha made a guest appearance. New cast with Martha and Mickey as the link to doctor who.

As long as Martha's in it, then yes, I'm all for it!

If it returns it does need to go back to Cardiff and it's roots.

However, much as I loved the first two series it does need to move forward as well. COE did this really well in keeping to the spirit of the first two series and moving forward but Miracle Day felt an entirely different show as well as being overlong, padded and tedious at times.

Aside from when Pertwee and Smith took on The Doctor and when JNT took over as producer, changes in Doctor Who have mainly been gradual and subtle ones. Torchwood needs to be the same.

I liked the original cast but would be happy to give a new series a go if it had Jack, Gwen and some new cast members and went back to the old S1 & 2 format in Cardiff. I didn't really like Children of the Earth (too grim) and Miracle Day was simply not Torchwood at all.

Miracle Day was a disappointment. A good concept in terms of the immortality not being 'all that' theme but the whole 'blessing' thing was atrocious. It was like a cartoon ending to something very sinister. It was just silly.

I hope TW does return, though.

What happened to The Rift was dealt with in the House of The Dead (the official full cast TW audio) , which was set in the period inbetween Jack killing his grandson & Jack leaving Earth at the end of Children of Earth

I think the Torchwood bus has been and gone.

Children Of Earth is a wonderful piece of TV, as in a standalone drama and not just a 'sci-fi' show. The BBC failed to act on the critical acclaim and the strong word of mouth that surrounded COE by not commissioning another 5 nightly single story run the following the year, it could have become event TV, just as Sherlock is now.

COE was written with an audience outside of the show in mind, the political downfall of Shrobishire (?) was extremely well written and acted.

Instead the show kind of lost it's soul with Miracle Day and became yet another vacuous sci fi show.

I can't see another series of Torchwood (as in series 1/2) happening again.

I'd love to see Jack again but I hated Children of Earth and Miracle Day was rubbish. RTD more or less ensured it wouldn't come back by wiping out the entire team one away or another (except Gwen but she was the least interesting of them).
Maybe the early times in Vixtorian Torchwood? that I'd like to see, but somehow I don't think it will happen.

Peter Capaldi's character was called Frobisher.

I recently rewatched the whole of Torchwood and was surprised how much better it was than I remembered (even Series 1) Series 4 was not great, but I think like Doctor Who, if it is brought back it should embrace it's past even the bad.

A Doctor Who episode centered on Torchwood might be a good way to bring it back. Have a feeling that's unlikely with Moffatt though as he seems to resist mentions to the RTD era

But not everyone listens to the audio - I certainly don't.

I know, but having official audios, which were broadcast on radio (as part of Tochwood: The Lost Files series) means they are unlikely to cover the same ground again on TV, although I suppose they could do it in flashback or just mention it in passing

I'd love the return of Torchwood, definately with Jack (not bothered about Gwen, I don't like her), and definately in Cardiff.

Only if the American TV company aren't involved this time. Americans make great television, but they seem to screw up our programmes when they try to copy/help to make them.

I loved Torchwood. Yes that includes Miracle Day.

It was perhaps too long which added too much padding but the storyline was really interesting, the characters were engaging and it genuinely had some shocking moments. I don't think it deserves so much of the hate it gets.

The only thing that put me off Miracle Day was the nonsense with airing it over in the US a week earlier than over here.

Still, I enjoyed it and I'd welcome Torchwood back with open arms. I loved Gwen (don't see why so many people here seem to dislike her? Her no-nonsense attitude was great) and could accept Jack as the Doctor Who link.

Sadly despite what I want, I don't think we'll see Torchwood again in the foreseeable future. Which is kinda sad because we lost DW: Confidential, Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures (which I also loved). Sadly Sherlock didn't quite take off for me from episode one and I really wanted to like it so I don't really have that many TV shows to look forward to!
