Microwave?

Anyway, I've owned Apple products of various shapes and sizes since 2000, they have just the same chance of borking as anything else. Some folk never have problems (or, as with many fanatics, say they don't until they stop and actually think about it...), some folk have endless problems, I've been hit and miss but it's basic law of averages as with any mass produced piece of tech.

I got two Hudl's, one for me and one for grandson, great little tablets. The OP is having trouble with youtube and Google, perhaps his home wireless is a bit hit and miss?

The wi-fi reception seems to be weaker on my Hudl than on my phone when out and about. I then have to turn on internet sharing on the phone to allow the Hudl to use that and get a strong enough signal to stream video (also useful when relying on a mobile signal for internet access).

Bt sport app now updated for hudl to support full screen

Had ours for a few months after having a dying nexus 7: the hudl is frequently unresponsive and the touchscreen is nowhere near as good as a nexus or ipad.

It's miles better than my iPad 1, that's for sure... I thought the Hudl was supposed to have a higher res screen than the original Nexus 7's?

It does but higher screen res won't have much affect on the touch screens responsiveness

Even on that count it's better than my iPad 1

Good news is that the BT Sport app is now proper full screen on the Hudl.

Bought two of them for my kids for Christmas (bought in November) .

First one died completely after about 2 weeks of use. Spoke to support and after agreeing that had tried everything to get it working and failed was given a code for replacement. Picked up in store next day..the replacement is working fine.

Second one died last week. again screen dead (bad batch?) went through same thing with support but this time they said cannot change in store as over 28 days old, they arranged to deliver a new one and take away old. Guy arrives next day, gave me a hudl (unboxed) and took away broken one.

The replacement booted up but would not set-up despite trying for several hours, resetting router, hard reset, soft reset etc etc I knew it wasn't my wifi as everything else including another Hudl connected fine. Support then admitted that a refurbished one ha been given and if I wasn't happy a new one would be sent out (boxed).

Received the next replacement yesterday and it booted up and connected fine so hoping this one lasts!!

So having had lots of different android phones and tablets for past 5 years without any being faulty I would be very wary of the reliability of these. By the way looking on the web there is a big issue with screens being faulty. I cant fault Tesco customer service though (except for trying to replace with a second hand one).

The one problem I have with mine is that it occasionally locks up while in standby. Need to press and hold the power button for 10 seconds or so to reboot it. Are people assuming it is dead if a simple press won't wake it up?

^^To be fair they don't have to give you a new one, just a replacement.

Never been inclined to go for one of these as, regarding technology, I do believe that, in the main, one gets what one pays for. My neighbour, who is an OAP, bought himself a hudl, which his great grandson also uses, and he loves it. He was showing it to me, and I found it to be extremely slow and quite unresponsive. imho, the screen resolution was fine, colours vibrant. After a while of having to swipe it several times, it would start to annoy me, so this is definitely not the gadget for me.
I think that, comparatively, this is not such a bargain buy. It is quad core, which is great, and quite unexpected in a tablet under the Tesco brand. On the down side, the screen is small. Hannspree sell a quad core, 10.1" tablet at the same price, but with a £10 off code, at Asda, bringing the price down to £10 less than the hudl, same specs other than mentioned, but with a 2 year warranty. Less money, better value. Battery life, max 9 hours. Lenovo Yoga 8" is £149.99 at Currys, battery life max 18 hours. A reputable brand, imo the ever important battery life is better.
I would suggest you look around at the comparables, and you will find there are better models out there, than the lowly hudl. The case for it is £15, then earphones are £6.
Having said that, a lot of people love it, but certain specs are more important to some, than others.

Finally got around to getting one three days ago and I think it's great! (especially as I didn't pay anything as I boosted clubcard vouchers online that I have physically mislaid.)

Hudl, Leather Case, screen protectors.

Just two issues - on my homescreen I have 'guides' that I can't get rid of and on my first day I was on flashscores and thought i'd try out a video of some goals and it told me I had a virus because of adult orientated content I had visited - yeah right....looks like it was an ad on flashscores or something trying to get me to buy anti virus something - I have AVG and it didn't find anything.

I don't know what to download though App wise - I have Sky Go and AVG and that's it - must be more worthwhile?

Would like to get and SD card too at some point but worried I would get the wrong one.

One would think so - but then again, if it's videoed and put on You Tube it will probably get millions of viewings, and might lead to a prosperous new career, thus enabling the poster to buy a top of the range tablet.

On the downside, Tesco customer services might question the tyre marks over it!

Not always the case in all circles and screen size is a subjective matter. The Hudl certainly isn't 'lowly', that's quite a superficial, and slightly materialistic, view of things, truth be told.

The Lenovo Yoga 8 rrp is £199 so I'm not sure how long it will stay at £149 at Currys but I wouldn't pay that for it, anyway - not elitist but Lenovo isn't an awesome brand, just well known, and that particular tablet pretty much only has good battery life going for it...

Any Android or iOS device can lag and become unresponsive depending on what the user has put on it so the story about your neighbour's Hudl is simply just one incident.

Even I will admit, though, that the battery life on the Hudl isn't the best but for most people it's perfectly adequate and I'm used to the longevity of the iPad battery. If battery life is your key factor then shop elsewhere but for £120 the Hudl is not a bad device.

It shouldn't be too difficult to get Tesco to do a refund - just tell them that it's not running as it should, and that you want your money back.

The Asus Memo Pad HD7 is available for 129.00, or a bit less if you google around. Good for games and music - voted best in its class by a lot of reviewers.

If you want a tablet for on-line TV and general surfing, the 9" NookHD is a real steal...

http://www.very.co.uk/nook-hd-16gb-9...questid=620523

I use my Nook with Plusnet BB, and I've never had a problem connecting or with lag.

Don't expect any tablet to be a match for a good laptop - tablets are toys, and a laptop is a proper computer - simple as that.

Has anyone tried the Hannspree Hannspad? 10", quad core, 2 year warranty for £109. Only down side for me is the battery life.

Not exactly a reputable brand, the Hannspad reviewed badly in the past (http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/tablets/hannspree-hannspad-930455/review) and doesn't do too well even now (http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/laptops/1304329/hannspree-hannspad-sn1at71) but this wouldn't be the thread to discuss that, really.

i do wonder if peoples expectations r based on prev experience. from a laptop/desktop background i think tablets r some what restrictive in how they work + what they offer. however the alt view is that a tablet does the most common daily stuff and for this they r fine, sort of a gadget which u throw away every year or 2 for a newer one. but every time i read about unresponsive screens i shudder, this simply cant happen on my pc with its proper keyboard.

i also wonder if adding more and more tech is such a good idea, more to go wrong. one of our tvs is getting on a bit and would like to replace it but this one simply refuses to die. i feel that a more modern complex model might actually b less reliable + have a shorter lifespan.

Sounds more like its faulty, the first one i got did this replaced and new one is fine, just as responsive as my sons original Nexus7

r? b? There are complete words available, that result in your post being easier to read. Those abbreviations were acceptable in the T9 texting days, but not if you have a full keyboard.

As for your PC never becoming unresponsive due to having a proper keyboard, you're joking, aren't you? A PC can easily become unresponsive due to HD fragmentation, malware, overheating (due to dust build up) and many other possible reasons.

Lifespan of a device will be down to build quality, not the complexity of the electronics. If your old TV is working fine, why change?

Our Hudl has been hammered daily since having it for Christmas. It's replaced the iPad 2 as the go-to tablet now, as it's faster than the iPad 2, it's screen is far superior and overall performance means its just a lot more convenient to use.

Touch wood, we've had no problems yet, its still as fast, the battery still as good, and the screen responsiveness still better than the iPad. Can't believe this tablet was so cheap, we've definitely had our moneys worth!

In my experience cheap tablets are crap. I've had 3 (yes three) nexus 7s and all had infuriating glitches with the touch screen, stability issues, and build quality issues. It's annoying as my nexus phones have been spot on, but they cost more i guess. The iPad mini 2 I have now is a revelation compared. God only knows what the tesco tablet is like if the nexus 7 was as frustrating as it proved to be. I think some people are just blind to its faults. You can bang on all you want about how much of a rip off iPads are but my experience of it has been far more pleasant than any android tablet I've used.
