The bigger point though is that Chris improved after his series to the point he could put up some of the moves that otherwise only Suzanne and Matt can. He could stay close to Ray on the skating, and may be able to do equivalent tricks and bigger lifts. As with Suzanne, it then comes down to routines and whether people really like Ray's speed or prefer a better routine or bigger tricks. They may even prefer Hayley doing something funny, or Beth with a show story.

The advantage of having Chris, and/or Mathew or Matt L, there, would be that there would be a proper male competition. Its largely Robin hyperbole, but his claim was there to be disproved that actually Matthew W and Matt L were better skaters. More convincingly, we have actually seen chris do bigger lifts.

The disadvantage is that if they had put 3 more top males in, and Clare Buckfield, who can do more than 3 of the females who made it, there would have been so many good contestants competing for the vote - that it would have been random, and pretty meaningless, who got it.

^ Matt Lapinskas, ex-Eastenders actor who was in the previous series of Dancing on Ice.

Oh, yes - thanks - I'd forgotten all about him. Yes, he was good.

He was very good, but he really struggled for votes last series so I think it would have been a bad idea to have him back. Against the likes of Ray his votes would probably have been even worse!

Did Robin ever say that Matt L and Matthew were better than Ray?

I agree it would have been better to have them and Chris in as it was already accepted that Ray was better than Kyran and Sam whereas it would have been interesting to see who came out top out of Ray, Matthew W, Matt L and Chris.

If I remember rightly Robin said during the last series that Matt L was the best male celebrity they had ever had - met with some outrage on this forum at the time I might add No way was he a better skater than Ray or Chris and debatable whether he was better than Matthew.

Or was it the best male flyer

I don't know why the producers let the judges go into raptures over him, when they (the producers) knew he was so low on the public vote. Wasn't he bottom every week but one?

It made them look a bit silly in the end I think. I didn't think that Matt was awful, I liked some of his routines a lot he just wasn't as good as they said he was (imo) and ultimately I don't think it did him any favours in the voting
