Is this email from BT genuine??
-GONZO-

Just recieved this email from BT titled "Your BT technical service" and am wondering if it's genuine or not.

Quote:
“Dear Customer,

Technical services of the BT.com are carrying out a planned software upgrade.
We earnestly ask you to visit the following link to start the procedure of confirmation on customers data.
To get started, please click below:

Upgrade

This instruction has been sent to all our customers and is obligatory to follow.

Thank you,
Customers Support Service.”

The web address contained under the Upgrade link is this: (http)://worldtopnews.ru/images/content_category/k.php

I've gone directly to BT and logged in but see no reference to any upgrade.
I put the address into Google but nothing shows up.

It takes you to a page that looks like a BT login page/
But using a made-up email address and random letters as a password takes you to a page asking for credit/debit card details.

A blatant phishing attempt.

"We earnestly ask you ..."

Only email scammers seem to use words like "earnestly" these days.

"Dear customer" and "the BT.com" scream scam, too.

The underlined bit shows that it's not from BT.

I have received lots of similar things, not just bt, and all looking official. Lots have small zip files attached, which i expect contain the cryptolocker virus.

And i get lots of calls from microsofts indian branch too.

Its a scam. They are trying to get your details and use it. Don't login with those details. If you get such kind of mails before putting your details down just try to talk customer services on their phone to check it is legitmate.

why would BT need you to CONFIRM your details ???

ALWAYS ignore emails from a company asking to CONFIRM details if BT needed to talk to you they would phone you

Precisely. They'd phone you anyway, like you said. I've never had an email from any of my ISPs that's asked me to confirm my details. Scammers will try and make their emails look and sound as professional as possible.
