Or an engineer install?
Also, will it just be a HomeHub 5 or a separate modem? Many thanks for any help. |

But still, will I get just a HomeHub 5 or a separate modem as well (going for BT Infinity 2)?
Thanks |

I've just got Infinity.
You just get the Homehub 5. Engineer visited (Kelly, not BT) but might as well have not bothered as his preferred option was to plug it into the existing extension socket using the old dongle. He did offer to change the Master Socket and run new cabling if I wanted, but as I was getting the maximum speed anyway and didn't want any mess I said don't bother. |

Arrrg, they are just useless (Kelly's and Quinn's) |

If I had been you I would have got them to run a cable. Thewres is not much mess and it only tane them 45 or 50mins but they was Openreach. and at the time the Home Hub 3 with Openreach modem. Wonder why BT are getting Kelly to do it now and not Openreach. Saying that it was Kelly that came to replace my Openreach modem over 18 months ago. Darren |

We have an engineer coming, would have preferred a self install. We have a single white BT socket but it's behind a rather heavy cabinet, it's only a mobile home but I bet they just unplug my Sky Hub and put the BT one in and be on their way. It's a wired Ethernet connection to my PC.
Does having a new socket make any difference to the speed or does the external filter set up mess things up? |

Better with a new master socket faceplate for the filtering helps with the speed and dose away with the old micro filters.

Self installs have started on Infinity. I don't know if it is for everyone or just some.

If I ever had to move house I would want my master socket faceplate changed for Infinity.
Think its better having a new master socket faceplate with a filter. Darren |

Indian call centre, oh dear.
Just got my order details for Infinity 2, BT have a Basic Line Rental service which we were on, but when I decided to switch from Sky they said I also had to have the phone line put in my name - it was paid for by my Brother, I don't use the phone and it's only for emergencies really. Bit of a pain but it turns out as I'm a Carer I also qualify but I paid the whole year's rental in advance. Emailed them but they just don't seem to comprehend, haven't taken the money yet so I'm hoping it will work out. They have rung a couple of times but keep hanging up. |

Trying to not hijack the thread, but I have ordered BT Infinity 2 (switching from Sky) yesterday as it's now available to order finally, and have had to take the Engineers Install visit, rather than self install. Not quite sure what he is going to do when he's here though! I've already fitted a BT vDSL MK2 filtered SSPF to replace my older ADSL Filtered one, and wired that up (and used the hard wired vDSL terminals to feed the CAT5e extension cable upstairs to the Computer room where the current Sky Hub Router is plugged in so have no need for dangly filters!), and am maxing out my available connection speed, so I know (well, am pretty confident) that my cabling and extension is sound! Would rather have had a self install though as saves wasting a day off work! I also want to keep the router upstairs plugged into the vDSL extension, rather than in the master socket, so the set up will be exactly the same as what it is now.

If you don't get the best speed possible they would probably charge you to return and sort it out, if you are confident ring them and say you have a decent set up already and save a missed day off work.
I got a square dual socket box installed, one for the phone the other Fibre, already had an Ethernet cable running to my PC like you and they didn't bother checking that - they checked the speed at the box and got 7.1 Megs download, as close to perfect I guess. |

Damn, now I am upset. I'm on TopCashBack but didn't think to check. I got the £100 Sainsbury's voucher and no connection fee, but I just missed a lot of cash there.

Luckily he could not have been more helpful and he moved the master socket onto an extension - which is what I wanted anyway. |
