Has anyone noticed when watching a film on TV or DVD that sometimes when panning left to right or up and down the picture appears to concave or concurve?

Only if you have some odd auto format enabled.

A 4:3 programme viewed using smarty-pants-stretchy-vision mode?

If I watch a DVD when the picture is in letter-box I usually adjust it so it fits the whole screen. But I have also seen this phenomenon on regular programmes. Watching it can appear like undulating waves as the picture pans. It's very annoying especially as now I am aware of it and looking for it.

Switch it off then. Change the aspect ratio on your TV settings from Smart or whatever it's called on your TV to Cinema or Wide or 16:9 or whichever one produces a normal looking image. You will probably have to suffer the black bars sometimes though. Swings and roundabouts I'm afraid.

So you adjust it to distort the picture!
