That was good, excellent cast and love twists at the end and just the right length of episode.

One niggle: Why are BBC2 moving around the show time? It's not on till 23:20 next week, that's too late for me.

What I loved in hindsight:

It's at 10pm next week not 11.20pm. Unless it's just different in your area.

Whilst really enjoying it, I didn't find it as funny as many others appear to have. I thought it more of a dark drama with a vein of humour running through it rather than a comedy which is what I was expecting.

I thought it was just the right length. I'm sick of programmes being padded out to an hour, especially the commercial channels coming up/you've already seen format, so it was good to sit and watch a quality piece of tv that ran it's course without it feeling dragged out.

Underwhelming. Continuity announcer practically wet herself with excitement though.

Yeah, I guess it must be different for BBC Northern Ireland then.

Have just watched this. Thought at first it was a bit wft? then started to really enjoy it. I didn't see that ending coming!

30 mins was just right imo. Left me wanting more. Cannot wait for the next episode.

Well that was shit.

28 minutes of banality to setup the payoff in the last minute.

The recent series on Dave called Crackanory did dark, quirky, strange stories better.

I hope the rest of the series is an improvement because a second series has already been commissioned before the first ep was even broadcast.

What is weird is that most of those who posted while watching were quite negative towards it but all of those who posted after it liked it.
Not too surprising. Those who like a show will concentrate on watching it. Those who (like I did) find it dull will look for more fulfilling things to do. Posting their feelings is one possibility.

I'm afraid that is typical of BBC NI. I've lost count of the number of programs they shove back to a ridiculously late timeslot

I switched it off part way through.
Couldn't get into it.
Sounds like I should have stuck with it if there was a twist at the end.

I really enjoyed this. It didn't make me laugh out loud but nevertheless I loved some of the lines, particularly Reece Shearsmith's characters and the 'Rachel..REBECCA' debacle.

I am going to rewatch it because I think that I missed a few of the clues as to what happened at the end. Also, when watching at first I did at times get distracted by thinking how unfeasibly large that wardrobe must be, so I'll be hoping to ignore that and just enjoy it more second time around.

I completely lost patience with it and have deleted my recording.

Very clever strong start for this series. Wonderful cast. Hope the next one is equally as good. The calibre of acting in one small space.
I thought the same. The calibre of acting was just incredible. Some real laugh out loud moments, (stinky John scenes were excellent), and then it suddenly went all horrible and dark...

Brilliant writing.

The funniest line for me was when the old woman commented on the colour of the 'fit' ones dress and said her hip turned that colour after falling over at Lego Land!

Thought it was good, not great. Was more impressed with some of my favourite actors gathered together.
Maybe after 6 episodes I will consider it as good as The League of Gentlemen or Psychoville. Or maybe not.

It's annoying for the rest of us too because (according to Charlie Brooker) a programme can't be put on iPlayer until after it's been shown in all regions if one is showing it later in the day.

Who was the actress that played Rachel/Rebecca, that wasn't Parkinson?

You can look her up on the BBC website and IMDB

I got that the father had paid for "Ian"'s family to move away for a disturbing reason... but why were his son and daughter so disturbed by the room they were all in?

I thought it was brilliant. Shearsmith and Pemberton and superb writers.

It might just be my imagination, but I thought there were a few cheeky but subtle digs at Dr Who in there (the wardrobe being like the "Time And Relative Dimension In Space ... TARDIS" and the old lady shouting "Geronimo").

That's where the washing lessons occurred. They made particular reference to the soap - Rebecca sniffs it, John doesn't wash, etc.

Judging by something that Pemberton's character said, whatever happened clearly happened in that bedroom and ... it happened to Pemberton's character and Stinky John as well.

As for the episode as a whole .... like others have said, it started off very slowly - almost too slowly IMHO - but definitely was excellent by the end.

Really enjoyed this, not laugh out loud funny (well personally, apart from the Anne Frank quip ; Shearsmith has a way with one-liners) but then neither was much of Psychoville or League for that matter. Just well written, well paced and superbly acted dark drama with comic undertones, and they are masters of it.

Looking forward to rewatching it to catch all the little bits - have skimmed through the thread and realised I missed so much! - and next week's looks intriguing too.
