Apparently Jokers did the same thing in 2011 and got their users to fork over money.

From mustats.com: The amount of bandwidth used by Jokersupdates is 5.246 GB per day. Thus, we estimates that jokersupdates.com uses a total of 1 server(s), with a cost of $40 USD per month.

They raised over $2500 from users right? That's over 5 years of hosting paid for.

Hmm.

Depends how many requests there are to the site really, with things like forums (low data transfer) any cost will be more related to CPU usage, shared server solutions would probably kick off customers hogging all the bandwidth, regardless of raw data usage.

It's years since I've ran a site though.

I dunno. Jokers and their posters always kind of annoyed me. Had too many "cat ladies" there that became over-obsessive over certain housemates. It wasn't aesthetically pleasing to look at either.
The layout is hideous, that much is clear.

I wonder what it was that violated TOS and got their ad account pulled.
Let's pretend it was their rabid relationship fandoms. The one-two punch of Shane/Danielle and the gross one who never bathed/Amanda last year was too much for a corporation.

I would assume the violation was for the Big Brother Canada livefeed that they kept linking to. Someone was streaming the feed on a protected channel without region blocks and Jokers kept putting up links for it. They even had a flashback system in place.

All the links were off site so no legal issue I would think.

I'm glad Jokers was saved, though last year really opened my eyes to how bullshit some of the updates there can actually be.

I literally couldn't work the forums there if my life depended on it, so only ever really visit for the updates (and I like the poll too!) Last year though, having watched more live feed than I usually would, I came to realise just how desperate some of the updaters are to promote their views on the houseguests and it really frustrated me. So many conversations I witnessed first hand were completely manipulated to the editors fancy!
(I remember vividly a conversation where Amanda listed countless nice things about the-soon-to-be-evicted Helen to Andy and McCrae, ending with a clearly jokey "but other than that, I hate her face" or something - can you guess what the sole comment on the updates section was?)

Towards the end, I just stopped visiting all-together. It felt like every single thing that anyone said in the house was being misreported and it just felt like people were desperately trying to get their moment of glory by being the first to report the latest non-controversy in the house. It was literally the type of thing where if some of the houseguests dared used the word black, it'd be frantically reported as the latest crime in the house, even if the comment was "I love your black shirt!"

I think stuff like that can get really dangerous, especially when the show was already under such pressure from the legitimately bad things that had been said. I really hope that type of thing doesn't continue this year, but you can just imagine the first nights of feeds these same losers waiting there at their keyboards, waiting for the first houseguest to say anything that they can use for their attempt at glory!

Oops, that turned into quite the rant! Two weeks to go!

Anyone have an idea what a rumoured theme is for this year ?

Can not wait for this to start, I cant get into BBUK this year and i need a BB fix and BBUS is a much better format imo.

It does seem like it could be a family members theme, right?

I enjoyed that

I just read, not sure if its anything more than a rumour, that they'll be voting people in. Possibly vets? That's why the feed doesn't start until after the second show.

I know last series wasn't that great for a lot of people, I still enjoyed it, but Vets? Really not a fan of Vets.

I'm not that much a fan of Jokers either, but there isn't many active places for BBUS/CAN to join. And so, i tend to find myself there if i like it or not.

I don't fit in very well over there, i don't think haha... It's more to do with latching on to a chosen few favorites it seems, and less about what i feel is very important in the "Observers role".

There's little analysis or care to the depth, and more in line with choosing a sports team and simply rooting for their every play. Which ends up quite intolerant and not allowing for views and opinions in contrast to the favorites. Not to mention, a lot of superficial type of stuff.

If anything, i find myself disliking the season more when i'm a part of the ongoing Jokers discussion.

I wonder, is the house big enough to split in two?

First 10 or so are shown going in night one, second 10 or so shown going in night two. Then each of the two sides could have a HoH, veto comp and vote for a few rounds before they have a Survivor type merge and play on as normal.

There could even be returning players on one side, their relatives on the other. Crazy idea that I just thought of, but I wouldn't put it past them. Especially since they've had to tear stuff down to get to the wiring to replace the SD cameras with HD meaning that if they have been wanting to do any structual changes prior to this season was the best time..

Probably way off but it seems to add up.

Ian for BB16?

From Jokers

Ian posted on Twitter that he is at Minute Maid Ballpark in Houston. After being called out for not being in the picture and a quick search, I found the picture he used on Wikimedia http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi..._maid_park.JPG few minutes later the post is deleted.
Janelle did something similar before she returned to BB14 - I remember her photoshopped head on someone else's body in "Greece" and some other stuff . Ian might just be winding us up though.

Yeah, Ian's a superfan! He wouldn't be dumb enough to use the Wikipedia page picture for something like this!

I wont be staying up .

I have the season feed pass but I got to admit, my enthusiasm has dropped a little. I'm not into the vets thing. When you read what people have to say about the HM's it's always tainted by what they've seen a HM do before.

Like in BB14, people kept going on and on about how amazing Janelle was and I'd be watching the feed and wonder what the hell people were watching. Janelle would tell these outrageous lies, generally a negative against whoever was the current HoH, and people would be saying on here and on Jokers that it was the most amazing move ever. In succesive weeks she managed to destroy not just her own game but the game of all the players she was coaching.

BB14 Janelle was a weird shell of a previous player but I agree, of all the turn-offs vets are a primary for me.
