Android 10" tablet advice
Looking to get an Android 10" tablet for my dad, around the £150-200 mark. I've lost track of what is good and what isn't, can anyone recommended a few tablets in this price range?
Would mainly be used for surfing, iPlayer and youtube. Having an card slot would be ideal too for him to bung a bunch of movies on it for holidays. |

I bought this from Currys for £210 last year but they don't seem to sell them now having moved onto the Tab 3 (hence the cheap price I paid) You may be able to shop around for a similar price. Its great, I rip DVD to watch on the memory card as well as browse, Skype, email etc. |

How about this? Seems to have good reviews and on a par with the 2013 nexus 7. Bit smaller though.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm right now trying to decide if it's better to get a really good 8" or an average 10" for the same price range. I like the look of the Lenovo Yoga due to it's unique stand which I think he will like. The 10" is way too expensive but the 8" is within my price range. Anyone got any views of this one? |

I have a 7.9" retina tablet and can browse the internet OK due to the sharp screen, but without zooming in the writing is very small and I know my dad would struggle, where as the 9.7" equivelent would be a lot better for him. If its not for a suprise present the best was to choose is to take him to PC World/John Lewis etc. to try them all. |

I suggest you try the Nook HD+
You could even buy a grade A 32GB from CEX for £100. The other HD tablet near the price range is the smaller Nexus 7 2013. |

Yes, looks pretty decent spec at that £200 price.
Preferable to a £170 Nexus 7 maybe. |

Shame that there still isn't any news of a second generation Nexus 10.

Also might be worth considering a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" at £179 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BFXRFO0/
It's a great tablet for the price IMO. |

It's a great tablet for the price IMO. Does it have access to the full range of Android apps? Edit - I see it Amazon's own app store. Next question - Can you easily put your own media on it and if so how? Like it my dad has his own music of e-books he 'sourced' elsewhere outside of Amazon's eco-system is there a way to upload them? |

Depends if you want the Amazon app store.
Isn't the Nook pretty much the same device but with the Google Play and Nook book stores instead |

As said, it has similar OK performance using the very same chipset.
Its just not walled gardened like the Fire. Both are slower than newer chipsets like on the 7 2013 and that LG. |

Very are selling the Nook HD+ at £129 which is a great price. http://www.very.co.uk/nook-hd-16gb-9...1216529124.prd Also if you have never used very before you get 10% off your first order. |

I know a few people with this tablet and for the money it is very good.
zoostorm playtab q6010 http://www.ebuyer.com/602649-zoostor...t-pc-3305-6010 I know it has been in the £130s not sure where. Failing this you will need to spend over £200 to get a top 10 inch tablet |

I bought a Nook 9" HD after having problems using flash player on my Nexus 7 (2013 model). The Nook is much better value than the Nexus 7, and I use it much more than the Nexus.
I bought it from Very.co.uk with 30 pounds off re a voucher that was in with some other goods received. I also took out 3 yr replacement cover that includes accidental damage. Total net cost was just over 160. Barnes and Noble are discontinuing the Nook, so they are being sold off at knock down prices. You might find a voucher on the sites that deal in them. If I could get a refund on my Nexus 7 I wouldn't hesitate, the 9" nook HD is much better to use. |

Thanks all. The Nook HD seems to tick all the right boxes so I think that will be the one to get him.

For indoor use I quite doubt there is a 'too big'.

There are 2 codes on the page to give you it for that price. |

If your fast you can get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 inch from Asda for £209 http://m.direct.asda.com/Samsung-Gal...KDeals-_-47868
There are 2 codes on the page to give you it for that price. The NOOK HDs get really good reviews, but they don't get the advertising coverage of the large multi-national household names, such as the Galaxy, Nexus, iPad, etc. More info on the Nook HD here... http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/nook...ary-features-1 |

The discount suggests it's the older model (not 2014 version) which means the screen will be 1280x800 (149.45ppi), whereas the 9" Nook HD is 1920x1280 (256ppi) i.e. full 1080p.

I think the newer model has the same screen resolution as the tab 2 10.1.

I thought there was a new model for 2014 with a higher res screen, but it might have been the Note 10" I was thinking of.
There is the galaxy tab 3 which was released in 2013 with a 720 p screen Then there is the galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition, released in 2013 with a higher resolution screen. Then there are the galaxy tab pro and galaxy note pro tablets that Samsng announced at CES last month. I think the note pro 12.1 is already on sale in the UK. |
