Cheers to OMTT for the initial tip on this innovative new Golf sim for PS4, X1 and PC, hopefully launching this Spring. Developed by HB Studios Canada it provides suitably sumptuous visuals, minimal loading and 'procedurally generated' courses. The latter feature is particularly impressive as it offers an infinite and unique variety of courses. Full online competition features, but there's no career mode as yet. But HB are keen to listen to the consumer base and this personally key provision may well evolve.

Entertaining video here of the highly intuitive random course creator. Slick don't cover it! The guy knocked together a bespoke course in a matter of seconds. Very impressive!

Interesting background article about how this one evolved. And it's from ironically a lack of a PGA Tour title this year!

HB Studios..

INSTANTANEOUS GAMEPLAY

No loading times between holes means you are straight back on the Tee after sinking your putt on the previous green. Also, minimal loading times into a new course.

With four clicks of a button from the main menu the game will generate for you a never been played before course. The variation is infinite!

This is a game i've been folowing for about a month, it looks great. The course creator is a welcome addition too. Looks like they need to polish the swing animation though, seems very clunky.

I also love that they won't be adding in a crowd either, they want it to feel more like playing at you're local club rather than a PGA event.

I'll spend so much time in the course cerator, it's unreal. I will finally be able to replicate my home course (just need to use Google Earth for exact bunker locations etc...)

Really looking forward to this game. It tried to do something different in the genre rather than the same old PGA games that EA churn out. Any lack of licensed pros or courses don't bother me, Everybody's Golf is my favourite golf game of all time and look at that! As long as the playability is there, I'll be happy

Yeah that's my only complaint as I have my favourite courses.

If they allow people to share created courses then maybe fans can make them and share.

Sounds good me and the wife do enjoy a round of digital golf, also looking forward to MLB the show, hopefully due to the small selection of PS4 titles at the moment it will make it to the UK.

The game ships with some professionally designed courses and at least one 'real' course. But over time users will replicate some of the worlds finest. This in a similar manner to the Links HD remake which features some exceptionally detailed versions of real world venues.

Strong social elements and course sharing are core to The Golf Club's ethos. So even if you don't create your own, there'll be a wealth of user created offerings available.

From HB Studios..

Play others creations work your way through the huge database of user created courses, each rated by other users to help make the decision easy to make.

Share your courses with the World. When you’re happy with your creations you can publish them for the rest of the world to play.

I'm sure you will mate. Might even consider resurrecting the 'famed' or should that be infamous (don't ask lol) Digital Spy Golf Club for this potential beaut.

The innovation continues with TGC's varied online options. The ghost saves mentioned below are ideal for challenging friends and rivals scores when you are unable to arrange a direct online match.

Quote from HB Studios..

Play against others live or from past ghost saves..

Each round you play on every course is saved Online. Choose from Friends Rounds, Record Rounds or Rivals Rounds (others players close to your ability) to compete against. Their ghost balls and scores will be visible throughout your round giving you the feeling of competition without losing the instantaneous game play.

To be honest I won't buy immediately on release. If you don't mind, some of you can be my guinea pigs

Indeed, and despite my urges for some PS4/PSV Golf, if it’s panned I’m out. However I sense a confidence and strong (borderline affectionate) product commitment from the team at HB. So it would surprise me if TGC isn’t at the very least competent on release, and that any ensuing quirks will be dealt with promptly. There’s much potential here in a disappointingly flaccid genre, and a clearer picture will no doubt emerge from the incoming Beta.

I would be up for that, we had a good tournament going back in 2011 if I remember rightly.

Ahoy Simon, hope things are good. Yea, it was certainly colourful and occasionally quite heated the old IGC! But some top sub 50 scoring Golf was played by all the members and many a thrilling struggle ensued. Doubt we’ll see scores like that on TGC though. There's no shot power meter for one, so touch, feel and finesse is key. Putting and lay-ups presumably being the trickiest part to master. Lots of potential and much challenge here, and yeah we’ll set some games up for TGC on release.

TGC is coming to Steam with an initial closed Beta followed by an ‘all-in’ Early Access program. No dates as yet, but I’d expect weeks rather than months. I’ll certainly take more than a passive peek at the latter, but for me this one is for PS4. Indeed more directly, Remote Play. However it’ll be useful to get a feel of this one via PC first.

A fun little piece here highlighting the HB Dev team's favourite old titles from the Golfing genre. For the record my top picks are the 1991 PGA Tour game on Amiga, with Leaderboard on the same format a close second.

Atmospheric audio is a key personal element in Golf games, and it's pleasing to hear that HB are offering this aspect deserved prominence. A diverse variety of ambient audio is promised at launch, with a conveyor belt of updates providing further FX and additional commentary.

More promising news is that there’s no NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) with the recently launched closed PC Beta testing of TGC. This already is providing much additional gameplay info prior to release.

I just wonder if it doesnt have official courses that it will lose some appeal.
Some of the testers are already recreating real courses, all of which will be available for download once published. One thing’s for sure, there’ll be no lack of variety with this one.
