EA PGA Tour Golf Imminent?

After a two year preparatory hiatus, PGA Tour Golf is 'due' for Spring release. But EA have been strangely silent recently, with rumours regarding a Golf stats related lawsuit alledgedly being responsible for the quiet? But hopefully these reports are awry or overstated and a major PGA Tour Golf release is forthcoming.

Speaking of said series, been thoroughly savouring a revisit to PGA 13 on PS3 recently. Having been distracted by the course rich but role play shallow TGC, I'd almost forgotten how good PGA Tour is. The Golf mechanic remains a lot of fun, but it's the huge RPG-esque depth and diversity that for me is it's tour de force. From player attributes, sponsorship and clubs fine tuning, to acquiring more sophisticated equipment from the Pro Shop. And that fully licenced vast PGA Tour calendar completes it's variety laden portfolio. Superb.

Anyway, hoping PGA Tour is imminent, well designed and that it fully utilises the PS4's potency.

CGT Battle at Beaver Creek

For the few DS'rs who partake in a spot of tournament Golf, today we head to yet another picturesque charmer of a venue. Namely, the boreal idyll that is Old Beaver Creek. Take a perusal HERE of this superbly crafted 18's gorgeous imagery. Btw, this will be our first tournament to utilise the handicap system. Providing an opportunity for the novice and casual players to hit top ten on the leaderboard. MO as ever 36 holes, 5 days. Enjoy.

Again for the few DS'rs who partake, this weeks tournament venue is the sunny Algarve as the CGT visits Vale do Morgado to contest the Morgado Trophy. Yet another beautifully crafted 18 this one, with varied elevation and boasting an array of pleasing vistas. We'll go handicap again (benefitting beginners) after last weeks very solid turnout. First tee as always Tuesday at 5pm UKT, 36 holes, 5 day window. Any q's from TGC newcomers please ask.

Sweet! The gimmicky stuff certainly don't appeal, as in playing on a BF map or the fancy dress nonsense, but thankfully all that can be ignored. As long as the PGA Tour career mode is fully intact, I'll be very much in.

The big question will be...better than the golf club?

Maybe tgc will go on sale again to compete.

It will have to go some to match the vfm I'm getting out of TGC, which I bagged for a daft 11 quid. But essentially they're different games. TGC is more of a sim, while PGA Tour has that arcade vibe going on. Being a keen Golf fan there's certainly room for both.

Minimal promotional activity from EA in the lead to PGA Tour Golf's 'June' release, some would say worringly sparse! A few pretty screens and a couple of brief promo videos, plus the pleasing mention of zero in round load times. But that's about it. It's certainly unusual for this very low profile approach just weeks from launch?! But hey, I'm sure all will be revealed in due course.

Thankfully the content brimming TGC ably fulfills that Golfing fix, and May's update is scheduled to include the much vaunted Career Mode, adding further depth to this superb indie release.

I feared it may have been delayed longer, couple of weeks late is cool. And after viewing this new promo, I think the wait may well be worth it!

Nice timing too, The Open from the home of Golf is the very same week. It will be interesting to see the course list. The aforementioned St Andrews, Troon, Wolf Creek and TPC Sawgrass are the only ones mentioned to date.

Here's some screens and further gameplay details. Nice to see the good old three click mech optionally available again, though I'm a converted left stick player these days.

Tempted with PGA too but really holding out for Everybody's Golf. I prefer the 3 click method as when I pull the stick back & forward, I always do it squint. If half the courses are stuck behind a DLC paywall, I'm giving this a miss

In PGA 13 & 14, to fully complete the career mode, you had to buy courses. You could skip the event if you wanted or unlock them for free (taking 300+ hours to do so) or you could basically pay the full game price again and unlock them all

I really hope now they don't go this route. I always bought a golf game to relax and want to just play on whatever course takes my fancy without having to unlock and definitely not pay extra for.

This is the basic argument isn't it; what's genuine game-extension DLC and what's simply holding back half the game so that you can charge twice.

If there is a decent list of courses available and you can ignore the existence of the DLC courses (i.e. career isn't affected) then it's not an issue. If there are the same number again held back as Day 1 DLC that are core to the basic game then that's shit, especially if they're more than a couple of quid each.

TGC Career Mode

Details here of the new Seasons Mode DLC for TGC due out in May for PS4 and X1. Looks very useful. Compete against 48 AI players in five progressively challenging tiers from amateur to elite. The DLC also features two new course themes and will cost about 7 quid. Excellent addition to an already fine game.

New Casuals Golf Tour event is live till Sunday at 4pm. The CGT Angels Vase features 36 holes at the charmingly crafted Angels Plateau course. Just search in tournaments for 'CGT'. All standards welcome. Good luck.

Looks like PGA Tour Career Mode is indeed fully intact, with a fifteen year pro tour. Still a spot of cloak and dagger regarding onboard courses, but I'll be surprised if we don't get the usual 15 or so licensed venues. Course DLC is a given, let's hope it doesn't impinge significantly on the games core features. But from the varied media evidence so far, PGA's looking very useful indeed.

There was a new update last night. Now Season's mode has been added to main screen but you can't actually use it yet

I'm hearing the Seasons/Career mode DLC will be on the store next week. The DLC also includes the new tropical course theme and additional commentary etc. Cost is around 8 quid and I'll most certainly be bagging it.
