Electronic music thread
I got into electronic music in the early 80's and it's been my preferred genre of music throughout my life. In the 80's the synthesiser was just starting to become affordable and the range of electronic music was relatively limited compared to today. Checked the Wikipedia website and there are loads of genres and sub-genres within electronic music and it's constantly evolving. That's great, but there's so much music out there which I've never heard but might like. For example, was listening to Nemone's Electric Ladyland on BBC Radio 6 Music recently and heard Poison Lips by Vitalic which I have never heard before but quite liked and that's from 2009.
Please post any tracks either you like or think I might like, past or present (preferably with links). I will start with a few tracks to give you an idea of my tastes. There are so many to choose from that I don't know where to start, but here goes. Jai Paul - Jasmine (don't know what genre this is but I love it) Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy (also one of my favourite videos) Surgeon - Scorn (one of my favourite techno tracks) Tim Harper - Battleground (first heard this in a Dave Clark Essential Mix from 1995) Raymond Scott - Sleepy Time (would you believe this is from 1964?) Hopefully, some of these tracks will be of interest to you and I'm sure you will post some great tracks I haven't heard before. More to follow... |

Check out Outrun/Futuresynth, which is 80s-influenced modern synth.
Some random examples: FM Attack - Tears Don't Lie Lazerhawk - So Close Flashworx - One More Night in Tokyo VEGA - She's Electric (this is Neon Indian's previous incarnation) |

If you like retro 80s electronic then have a listen to Holy Ghost! They are a newish band who went out and bought old antique analouge synthesisers.
Love this song Teenagers In Heat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhLMp_gZMqo&feature=kp |

Two acts :- Kraftwerk & Tangerine Dream.
For Kraftwerk, start with Autobahn (1974) and go forward through their catalogue. With Tangerine Dream, start with Phaedra (1974) and again go forward through their catalogue. These two bands were ahead of their time forty years ago and are true pioneers of the genre. Both bands lost it in the mid 80's when technology & software allowed the competition to catch up. |

I have heard of Tangerine Dream, but not so familiar with their work. Will take a look into their catalogue.

As well as Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk there were a number of German techno groups around in the 70's, I was lucky enough to see Can and Amon Duul live, this is a taster from them.
