I do mine in the toaster, I like it medium done, not to light not over done. I like loads of utterly butterly and a spread of brown sauce or jam I also make sure i put on my butter straight away, I hate it when its taken out of toaster and left for a minute, and the butter dosnt melt properly.

It depends on the bread. If it's Warburtons then I leave it to go cold before buttering. If it's Kingsmill then I butter it while warm.

No Utterly Butterly though! It has to be either proper butter or Anchor spreadable.

we've been having Hovis white doorstep for toast recently, buttered while hot, with real butter, can't beat it for taste

Medium done and left until nearly cold so the butter doesn't melt. Opposite to the OP.
Marmalade or marmite on top.

Medium done with Heinz Ham and cheese toast toppers on top.

100% agree. Has to be crunchy and proper butter or lighter butter, no chemical rubbish like Utterly Butterly or Flora etc

Agree, no synthetic spread and the toast has to be golden brown and slightly cooled.

Sometimes I like it really lightly done, still quite bready.
Other times I like it almost burnt.

Nearly burned with either houmous ( low fat) or low fat Flora ( sometimes with Vegemite).

Lightly browned with lots of butter spread on as soon as it comes out of the toaster, mmm If I get the heel of the bread, that's lovely too.

White bread, medium done, buttered when hot, with thick cut marmalade.

Or with beans/scrambled egg.

Depending on how I feel I usually have either:

Charcoal toast (burnt) with butter and/or peanut butter and/or marmite
Almost burnt and as above, but I'll also have it brown and as above.

And once in a blue moon I'll be naughty and sprinkle on some grated cheese (Not with peanut butter or Marmite though)

So I guess I'm not really fussy provided it's not pale

My crumpets on the other hand have to be properly cooked (almost burnt at the bottom)

I guess I like the burnt taste?

My mum only used to toast one side.....which would have butter and jam

Then two slices would be put together with toasted sides on the inside and untoasted sides on the outside to form a toast butty !

Hotel toast! Med to well done and left to cool a little so it gets chewy - spread with proper butter.

Medium brown and served as hot as possible. Cold toast is disgusting.

I use the grill function in the microwave for all-over perfect toast, and butter it right away. Sometimes add golden syrup or jam.

I prefer mid-golden brown, but don't mind the odd almost-burnt slice, I think it has more taste that way!

I don't mind white, brown, thin, thick, large, small, crust, crustless. I like proper butter OR Bertolli olive spread. I like it best when the butter stays solid, so often let it go cold.

For toppings, it'll be marmalade, cheese spread, peanut butter, Cheddar and Worcestershire sauce, Heinz mata sauce, HP, Marmite or just plain. I love jam, but on cakes, can't eat it on bread!

Last night I was in bed and couldn't stop thinking of toast, even though I was tired and not even hungry, but I gave in around 4am, got up and made four slices, with tea!

I always use the toaster, but my micro has a grill - I've never thought of using it for toast, so will try it next time.

I like my toast brown/white bread - it doesn't matter, lightly toasted, real butter spread thinly and a light coating of seville marmalade - delicious
