Deep fried butter with a hint of Irn Bru

Must be an early April fool surely!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddr...-Scotland.html

Quote:
“The dessert, made from frozen balls of butter and given a Scottish twist with Irn Bru batter, is already popular in the US.
Described as a "heart attack on a plate", the chefs at The Fiddler's Elbow in Edinburgh serve the sticky treat with Irn Bru ice cream and coulis.
For those wanting an even more potent version of the dish, called Braveheart Butter Bombs, a variation with whisky batter is also available.”

Nope. I had these minus the Irn Bru at a US county fair about three or four years back, and read about the Scottish ones last year. They weren't half bad for what they are. Butter and sugar. You can't really go wrong for a base for junk food.

The carbon dioxide in the Irn Bru will make the batter crispy and light - probably adds colour and flavour too.

How can you make the batter with irn bru, that would be like using cola in the batter? A very odd flavour I would think.

In the same way you would make a batter with lager, beer or soda water.

It's being used in a batter for a dessert so being sweet would be a bonus.

I've no idea what this actually is (we have no full list of ingredients), but if you really think about a normal sponge cake, it's a third pure butter and a third pure sugar. The rest is just simple flour. On paper it sounds utterly disgusting and unhealthy, but who doesn't like cake?

Maybe these things taste like a cross between cake and amarettini?

It's like a fried cake donut ball. (Doughnut hole)
