Watched the programme this evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've been as excited as when that line of perfect sixes came up (for artistic impression) after watching their original performance, and tonight's programme brought back the wonderful memories.

In the context of the time, what they achieved and how they went about it was astonishing and it's nice to see that since then, their star has remained bright.

I've no idea, but all 'perfection' in sport is in the context of the times. This one stands the test of time very well IMO and it's not just a 'British' thing, as you can see from this video from US TV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUsXLQ9NItg

It's a nice blog by the O/P too, I enjoyed reading it.

I couldn't help thinking throughout this documentary how their brilliant win was subsequently tarnished by their ill-advised comeback attempt in Lillehammer 10 years later.

Ahh blimmin' 'eck - even now, donkeys' years later, watching the original video still makes me feel good, plus it takes me back. I remember watching it back then, when I was a young 'un. The first time all sixes have ever been given for Artistic Impression. Anyone I spoke to about it was so proud.

Bit scary for that family that had Jeffrey Archer knocking at their door asking to watch their telly.

Too right! See Len Goodman manages to get his face in everywhere too!

If they were going to make a comeback, it should have been in 1988, and then they would have won, quite easily. By 1994, they were 10 years older, and the difference became apparent.

For their Rumba alone I can't bring myself to think of their comeback as ill-advised. Beautiful routine.

They couldn't come back then as they were professional. It was only when the rules were changed in the early 90s that it became possible.

I'm sure they don't regret it even if it didn't have the fairytale ending. They say you always regret the things you don't do in life more than the things you do. If they hadn't come back they probably would have wondered 'what if' for the rest of their lives. I don't think it's diminshed their previous achievements 1 little bit just as with Kati Witt who finished way down the field in Lillehammer doesn't take away from her 2 golds.

Under modern rules they probably would have focused more on shows & exhibitions for a couple of years after 84 & then made a competitive comeback for 88, a bit like Plushenko & Yuna Kim have done in the current Olympic cycle

I agree. I watched it on youtube the other day and it's truly brilliant.

I don't think people should consider their comeback a failure because a bronze isn't a failure in my eyes. They did extremely well.

Had a real lump in my throat watching this again today! Only this time, I'd managed to persuade (read force, haha) my 22 year old son to watch it for the first time! I don't think either of us held out much hope (especially as he's more into snowboarders flying through the air), so it was amazing to see him completely captivated by it!
