Oh that one.

It's still there. I walked past it the other week after visiting the dentist.

Is it worth a visit then?

Within a mile's walk of my office (which is a couple of miles from home) we have French, Mexican, Greek, Cajun, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Danish, German, British, Brazilian, Lebanese, Irish, Southern US Soul Food, and Spanish. Probably others I haven't thought of. Most of them excellent.

There's a wonderful Mexican type of place called Lupita (or is it Lupito?) near Charing Cross station. Everything tastes so fresh and beautiful.

I also live near a very authentic Nepalese restaurant. It's always full of Nepalese people eating. Very good food.

I want to try Ethopian, I've been recommended a restaurant in I think north London, husband and wife team.

Yep. It's a pub, with decent food. You wouldn't think of it as "ethnic" because it's too similar to British, but British cuisine is foreign here.

I quite like Mexican food but over here it's mainly just chain restaurants with small portions and poor quality.

It's often similar in some parts of the US that don't have a high Mexican population, although it's gotten better than it used to be. But you can find good Mexican food in the border states.

I've never been in an authentic Mexican over here either. They all seem to be chains. Even though Wahaca is supposed to be good it's still a mini chain by a non-Mexican chef/owner.

Last month I found a very nice Tibetan restaurant in Amsterdam, if that's of any use to anyone.

We have Ethiopian only open for weekend lunch. Most of the time it's a French restaurant. I believe the reason is that the French owner/chef has an Ethiopian girlfriend who helps run the place. I generally like it, though I think they tend to cook some of the vegetables more al dente than I'm used to.

Is that the Snow Leopard in Haarlemerstraat ? Very nice!

No, it was Norling on Reguliersdwarsstraat. We were trying to go to a garlic restaurant which was closed, so our Tibetan meal next door was a very happy accident!

Oh well! Snow Leopard strongly recommended next time you're there.

There used to be a really good one in my city but it was a bit out of the way and in what people might class as a bit of a dodgy area. It did survive for years but ended up closing a few years ago. I guess the demand wasn't there and it was surrounded by at least 15 cheap takeaways so had no chance really. I went once as a kid and remember it being great with proper size portions. Seems people just want Indian, Italian or Chinese these days which usually means a Saturday night delivery from the local grease shack.

I think Mexican and Spanish are popular these days. If that place was around now it would probably be doing good business.

saying that, in a year or two it will have moved on to another cuisine
