Lovefilm do not list any Roku as compatible on their website, so I would guess not.

Surely were now more likely to see Lovefilm (Amazon Prime Instant) , I believe the rebrand from Lovefilm is today and Roku in the US already has a Amazon Prime Instant app.

That's correct, so I would imagine that Amazon Instant UK arrives on the Roku platform shortly.

Or maybe not, as Amazon should be releasing their own streaming box in March or so

And exactly what difference would that make ? Now TV has its own streaming box however its still available on a multitude of other devices. Why would you limit your audience ?

Well Now TV was/is trying establish itself so it would make sense to make itself available on as many devices as possible. Amazon aren't in the same boat as such, they have the app available on quite a few devices at the moment, and may consider it a better option not to bother with other devices, as their own is coming out, else why bring out your own device.

There a service/content company not a hardware one. The money they make on Kindle, and Kindle Fire hardware is hardly anything, they only make the hardware as a further way of selling the services/content. As long as its cost effective and the content owners are happy they will make things available on as many devices as they can.

Some services are just harder to develop for and some don't have the market penetration to make the cost of making it a priority essential.

But my point is why spend money and resources developing for Roku, Apple TV etc etc, when they can just sell their own box.

And Amazon are in the perfect position to promote and sell the box, they can offer 1 months trial to Prime streaming etc, as long as the box is under £100 maybe under £50 it will sell well. Apparently its gong to include 8gb of ram so the rumour is you'll be able to download games etc too.

Why do they develop kindle reading apps for pretty much any device that allows third party apps when they have the kindle?

The Amazon set top box will be great for those who haven't yet got into the settop box market or maybe even for people who are looking for a second box (or upgrading a box they either aren't happy with or who need to upgrade but the company got out of the settop box market) especially if they picth it at the Chromecast kind of market but those who are already in the Roku, AppleTV and such like ecosystem aren't going to switch but Amaazon will still want these customers

Wakey has pretty much covered everything , Amazon wants its content on as many devices possible which makes perfect sense , will the Amazon box have competing services ? If not this is another reason why many will want to keep hold of their existing devices to access their other services like Now TV , Netflix etc.
