ALBA LCD audio input
My son has got an Argos bought ALBA LCD TV.
He is trying to get sound into the red/white inputs form his laptop via head phone socket. no matter what AV channel he selects the is no sound anywhere.the laptop socket is working because you can hear sound through headphones. Any idea guys? |

The TV may well mute the sound if there's no video signal - why is he wanting to play just audio from a PC anyway?.
The sockets will also be clearly marked which input they are, so you only need to try the correct one. |

Just make sure the red and white are inputs and not outputs.
Very unlikely to be red and white phonos on their own. More likely to be part of component or composite (red, white, yellow) inputs. |

Yes, it is a full row of green, blue, red + white, red.

It matters not one jot that a pair of headphones plugged into the laptop make a noise if the lead is buggered ![]() So first test would be to plug the lead into a known working audio system and make sure that it is working. Secondly. As Nigel posted above there is a chance the AV input needs a video as well as audio signal present in order to work. It might be easier to use a Composite Video input (has just three phono sockets, red & white for audio and yellow for video) then hook up the video to something like a DVD, Sky box or Feeview box with a composite video out. But connect the audio sockets to the laptop. Now see if you get sound from the laptop plus video from whatever you have used. Getting a Component video feed (the red green and blue) might be harder, though a DVD/Blu-Ray player may have appropriate outputs. |
