Michelle Bass: Panto star?
Sigurd
18-02-2005
This is old news, I'm afraid, but I happened to come across it this evening. Here are some extracts from the review in The Stage of Michelle's performance in Aladdin.

Quote:
“A wordy opening means that this show is slow to get going. But once it is in its stride it blossoms into a fun-filled, colourful extravaganza...

A sign of the times we live in, the show has the almost inevitable sprinkling of suggestive material. Call me old-fashioned but it continually saddens me that family entertainment has gone in that direction.

...The ‘star’ of the show is Big Brother’s Michelle Bass. She has a reasonable singing voice once her nerves are under control but her performance is wooden, like someone out of their depth whose stage experience is practically non-existent. I rest my case. Space does not permit me to rant more about what I, and many others, feel about this kind of casting.

Mike Martin”

Seen it before. There is great resentment among the acting fraternity to people who in their eyes bypass the acting apprenticeship.

Michelle was surprisingly good actually.

The full review can be found here.”

That's really old news - first night in December I believe - written by some sad old hack who once aspired himself to tread the boards in the Scottish play, dear boy .....

And here's what The Stage says about Nadia's performance in Peter Pan.
Quote:
“This brand new production is one of the finest Christmas shows ever seen at this venue. It has everything - quality stars, superb sets, marvellous special effects, glorious costumes and a nice balance of comedy and singing. The Mayflower is one of the few theatres in Britain equipped to take this kind of hi-tech production...

Portuguese-born Big Brother winner Nadia Almada is cast as a Mermaid. It is her pantomime debut and it shows. ”

Brief and to the point, I suppose...

I guess the test is not so much how they did this year, but whether or not they get offered one next year.

I went to see her in panto and she was suprisingly good. I wasn't expecting a lot because at the end of the day it's only a panto after all but I was pleasantly surprised. More importantly my kids really enjoyed it especially Michelle's performance and that's what matters really, well to me anyway.

With due respect to the Michellelikes, I do not believe she was as good as they protest. I am more inclined to believe an objective review from a recognised published source.

In short, I believe our moon-faced, snaggletoothed, flipper-throwing bully is as bad as reviewed. Only the converted, die-hard fans could see it otherwise.

So seriously, sian, what was Michelle like in the first performance that you saw? Signs of her inexperience on stage? Nervous? A bit wooden?

And how good was she in the last performance that you saw?

Come on now, be as honest and objective as you can!
