Favourite Series?
Not including this series as it's not finished yet (and I doubt many people would vote it anyway
) what would you consider to be your favourite series of Dancing On Ice? I'd go for Series 2 personally, maybe not necessarily objectively the best series but the one I have the most fondest memories of - I really loved Kyran Bracken and Clare Buckfield and it was great having them both as contenders and the top spot switching between the two of them, which makes a difference from some of the later series where sometimes one contestant hogs the top spot for the entire series. I thought there was also a range of great contestants that series, and although on reflection lots of the routines were overmarked, it seemed really exciting to see people get such high scores back then! I think in general I much preferred the earlier series to the latter, they were far more simple which I think works better for the shows format and were better to watch. I also feel like with the exception of Jason being a bit underhand at times, the whole show felt much nicer and more of a feel good show back then, which is how a show like DOI should be imo, instead of including a multitude of 'exciting twists' that are just cruel and pointless. I also hated the inclusion of the terrible twists such as 'the duel' and 'the group dance' which they insisted on bringing back every series, and this is a more minor aspect but I much preferred the 5 person panel as opposed to 3 or 4 - it just felt different and for me it really worked, I liked the nod to the real skating world with the scores out of 6.0 as well.If I was to rank all the series, it would probably go like this: Series 2 Series 3 Series 1 Series 5 Series 4 Series 7 Series 8 Series 6 I'd probably put All Stars under Series 4 atm - I'm annoyed about several aspect of it but I still like the fact that we get to see some of my favourite contestants skate again and the occasional nod back to the glory days of DOI. |

Series 3 for me, I still wish Chris had won though...
I agree about the earlier series being better, the thing I miss the most is the required elements. It made it clear who could skate and who couldn't. |

Its between series 3 and series 4 so ultimately boils down to Suzanne vs Ray. On balance, Ray tips the scale

I watched series 1 on and off, and didn't see series 2 or 3.
The first time I watched all the way through was to see Ray and was thrilled to see him win ![]() So series 4 gets my vote

Series 2 for me with Series 3 close behind. Series 1 didn't have the same level of skating, Series 4 it was too obvious Ray would win, Series 5 I enjoyed but none of my favourites made the final so I felt a bit meh about it in the end and then the later series were ruined by silly twists / the choreography started to get a little boring.

Its quite hard to decide for me but I ultimately chose Series 3. It was the first time my favourite had actually won and I loved it, there were so many potential contenders that year. I know not everyone was very strong but most of them were actually likeable and could pull off a performance well. I also really enjoyed Series 6 and 7, even if they ended with completely awful results.

Series 7 was my favourite. Matthew Wolfenden really stole the show for me. Wish he was back this year giving the other finalists a run for their money.
Second favourites were series 5 & 6. Also series 3 was pretty good. Found series 8 so boring & didn't think anyone was exciting. |

I cant decide between series 2 or 3, they've got my favourite contestants in them - Kyran and Chris, I think maybe series 2 has the edge!

Series 3, just. Suzanne and Chris. Superb routines. Music, Cry Me A River, Time Warp. A proper battle. No daft twists. Good judging. It was DOI at its peak.
The only thing that stops it being by far the best is that other series, especially 2 and 4, had a better overall line up. 4 despite the obvious winner had some brilliant people and a true story in Donal's progression. 6 I enjoyed as Laura is possibly my favourite overall and there was finally a battle for top again but the twists marred it and things were getting stale now. Solo skate was good though and Laura had some memorable routines. On paper 7 should have been the best, they had some fantastic competitors. But this is when the routines completely dried up. Not a single memorable performance bar maybe The Way You Make Me Feel. A waste and of course the ill advised move to replace Jason with the nonsensical Louie. Among other things. 5 was the very worst although last year might take that. Hayley is one of my favourites but that was the year every other person was average or poor unlike Ray's year which at least had other good people. I'll never forget the fake drama of orchestrating it so Danielle topped the leaderboard with a basic routine, in order to create some false tension. And Gary was the worst runner up in history. So in order for me: 1.Series 3 2.Series 2 3.Series 4 4.Series 6 5.Series 1 6.Series 7 7.Series 8 8.Series 5 Really I think we only got 3 properly good series as well as the introduction of Series 1, as many were flawed and even 4 was flawed for the Ray predictability. I'm mostly enjoying All Stars though |

Season 3 for me. The post I've quoted below sums up my reasons why. ![]() Quote:

Series 2 just over 3 for me. I'd rank the series in the following order:-
Series 2 - the skating quality increased markedly from series 1. And there were some great routines. Really liked all the finalists that year & Kyran was a deserved winner. Series 3 - A great competition. I'd have preferred Chris to win but no arguments with Suzanne winning Series 7 - Some great contestants & one of my favourite winners, Matthew's showcase routine is one of the best DOI routines. The ice panel was definitely at it's best this year. Series 1 - Although the quality wasn't there in the skating that we saw in subsequent series it did feel quite exciting back then. Series 4 - Loved Donal's journey, the most improved skater across a series IMO. And there is no doubt at the time that 'that Todd moment' was TV gold. Ray was of course a deserving winner but given it followed 2 series where we had a great competition, it did feel a little lacklustre from that point of view. Series 4 also had 2 of the most annoying DOI contestants in Coleen & Zoe, with the former vastly outstaying her welcome. Series 8 - Some great contestants though sadly they didn't have the routines to match, given what happened subsequently perhaps it was a case of T&D going through the motions a bit. A couple of things left a bitter taste in the mouth too, namely the manner of Gareth's departure & the terrible reaction of the judges to Beth winning Series 6 - All the bloody twists & the line up in this series in terms of calibre of celebrity was dire. When Kerry Katona is one of your star bookings you know things are bad. The panel was dreadful too, the aforementioned Miss Katona would never have been saved in a skate off with a majority skating panel. I really liked Laura though & Johnson's journey was lovely to watch. Series 5 - The series I least enjoyed. Hayley deserved to win but the competition was poor. The only likeable contestants Danniella & Mikey plateaued after showing a bit of promise early on. |
