I actually reckon that Peter Capaldi would have made a great Master. I know he's going to be a fantastic Doctor, but I think he could have definitely been a good Master as well.

How about this guy instead? http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3071/3...2caea627_o.jpg

Ben Daniels: He was rumoured for the role of the 12th Doctor (and may have been him too) but instead perhaps he could play the Master. Daniels has a history of some villainous roles too and I’m sure he’d be a wonderful version of the renegade Time Lord.

Charles Dance: Heavily rumoured/favoured by fans and given that his role on Game Of Thrones as Tywin Lannister has possibly earned him some new fans, he’s also one of my favourites for the role. Both him and Capaldi as onscreen enemies would be amazing, wouldn’t it?

Jason Isaacs: Another actor with a strong history of villainous and darker roles, Isaacs is also pretty close to Capaldi’s age and seems to be one of those actors not many fans mention as well. I think he would be another great choice for the Master.

Matthew Rhys: Possibly not likely to happen due to his commitments to The Americans (though I’m sure Season 2 is finished filming), Rhys convinced me with his take on John Jasper in BBC2’s The Mystery Of Edwin Drood, that he could be rather menacing in a quiet, subtle way that would even outdo the likes of Roger Delgado.

Michael Sheen: I was trying to avoid selecting any actors with previous involvement in the show but I couldn’t resist with Sheen. Yes, he voiced the rather nasty House in The Doctor’s Wife but the guy deserves to be seen on Doctor Who and who better than playing the Master, eh?

Steve John Shepherd: Mainly known in recent times as his role of Michael Moon in EastEnders, it might be arguably too soon for Shepherd to play another high profile villainous role but along with Dance, he has been rumoured/clamoured by certain fans and I actually do think he would be an interesting choice as well if he were picked.

So those are my choices. Who are yours to go up against Capaldi’s Doctor?”

Definately Jason Issacs! He played a wonderful villain in the Harry Potter movies!

Failing that, Benedict Cumberbatch. Now that Sherlock Series 3 has finished, it would be the perfect time for him to be in Doctor Who. Remember Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness?

Of course we could always have the "I always drezzzz for the occasion" Eric Roberts for a Master comeback

I like Cumberbatch but for some reason, I'd rather see no-one from Sherlock as the Master but I'm sure he would be great were he cast though.

Sean Pertwee.
He's been my choice to play the Master ever since the show returned.

He's a cracking actor, has a terrific voice, solid stage presence, does villainous and charming with equal measure and can come across as seriously threatening too.

Plus he's Jon's son, and the ensuing publicity would be phenomenal.

Pertwee would be brilliant were he not recently cast for Gotham.

I like the suggestion a lot though.

He definitely has a presence. I may have seen him in a shop, I thought that bloke is an actor. He stared back with a surprised expression, as he saw me glancing at him. I hope I didn't scare him.

I should think you're ok sandydune, you can't be that scary surely. I reckon it'd take a lot to scare Sean P!

Jason Isaacs would be good casting; he has creepy eyes and all the women love him. Awkward baddie crush?

Aha! A fellow 5Live listener

But I just read that he's in the new horror TV series Penny Dreadful, so he's likely to be busy.

Is it possible for Derek Jacobi to return? I found his brief few minutes as The Master rather than Yana magnificent. Especially if we're going on the new Time War stuff, I'm sure Moff could find a way.

Hmm, not sure. Possibly.

I did enjoy Jacobi's brief moments as the Master.

Like him but too young.

Kind of want an actor close to Capaldi's age.

Sorry to stir this thread up again.

I just saw an advert for new series called "The Prey" where the main star is John Simm. I'm guessing if he spent the past few months filming this, its unlikely he will pop us as a returning Master anytime soon even if just for a short regen scene. Then again, this is just my speculation and I know we don't really know the Master is going to be on S8.

Ah, I've done it again haven't I, just couldn't help myself - Bring on the new enemies ... give the old ones a rest

ok that's better, got the master out of my system again .....
