Yes, but what you need to understand is that in order to get close to your theoretical 21mbs from the 3G network, you would have to be sat next to the mast and hope that very few people are using the network at the same time.
Exactly, a good way of thinking about it is like a fire in a fireplace, if you put your hand in the flame it's hundreds of degrees and for every inch you move away the temperature drops massively. Just inches and feet from the tower you see a massive loss.

Once you're away from the cell site and in a building there is a significant signal drop, noise from other distant cells on the same frequency, the signal has bounced all over the place and you're realistically going to get much lower than the maximum theoretical possible speed.

The OP seems to incorrectly assume that because the speed they get on HSPA+ doesn't come near the maximum possible that DC-HSPA wouldn't offer any more speed. That is totally wrong as double the bandwidth is available on DC-HSPA, meaning even slow speeds can increase due to the extra bandwidth.

Any comparison with wifi is a joke as a phone could have an issue with wifi dropping out or issues without affecting the cell signal as they are totally different things and not comparable.

I'm done with this now.

Either Turks is a troll or he genuinely has no idea how a mobile network works and is making it up as he goes along.

Probably true, but either way we had some fun and anyone reading who didn't know a lot about networks before probably learnt something (I know I did).

I think that's the bit he's really struggling with tbh.

I have already answered that in post 68;

My wifi is faster than 3G argument is just to prove that there is nothing wrong with the handset. It does not mean I expect wifi speeds but I definitely expect more than 15% of my handset's potential three is currently providing.

Which just confirms that you do not have a clue what you are talking about.

That only confirms what I said in post 25;

It is unacceptable to receive 2.5mpbs download speed on a phone that can support up to 21mbps on 3G

Not if you know what you're talking about.

Young Turks is a troll - plain and simple. He is obviously very bored with his life so he has come in here to try and bug other people and get a reaction.

Shall we all just agree to ignore him?

Haha missed lot of this last night got dragged into watching something and don't even mention dominos awful people. Btw as others have said 2.5Mbps is not going be the best but if you had a DC-HSDPA device you would likely get speeds around 4-6Mbps which would allow you to do most things you wanted to. Plus comparing it to wifi is also stupid let me give you an example my Wifi at home from Virgin gives me if I am lucky in the same room as it 14-16Mbps anywhere else I'm lucky to get a signal. Thankfully I have powerline for my internet connections,

My daughter loves em, but I think they're like cardboard with a topping. My local Pizza hut is just as bad though.

Morning all

Right whinging here seems to be working. This morning my oakla speedtest app says 4.68mbps and namesco broadband max test says 5.2mbps.

Let's see how long it will last, I bet by lunch time I'll be back to Three's ultrafast speed of 2.5mpbs

i wonder how much of three's traffic is to speedtest.net and how much faster everyone's connections would without it.

I think young turk maybe onto something. At home I get 17mbps down with Orange and 3 on 3G, I also get 17mbps down with Talk Talk broadband over wifi. This means the networks are in perfect balance. However when I go to the pub down the road my speed drops right down. 10mbps on EE and 11 on 3 - but here is the kicker nothing, zilch zero with wifi. I would love to know why this happens but I don't suppose it is possible to work it out given the variables in play.

Good old Three never disappoints me, as I said earlier the speed would go down by lunch time, guess what lunch time and we are back to 2.7mbps!

Good job they advertise their poor speed as ultra speed! I wonder what I would get if it was not ultra speed.

Ultraspeed? more likely ultra rip off

The funny thing being that your phone doesn't support "ultrafast" which Three class as DC-HSPA+ and LTE.

So you can't complain about not getting ultrafast speeds.

So like everyone has said here. All your posts are full of inaccurate points.

As of 13th February 2014 at 13:18pm Three can only deliver 12% of my phone's potential speed so;

Why would any other phone make any difference?

12% of 42+mpbs would be only 5mbps. Even poorer than my speed if you take into account the extra cost of ultrafast phone

Three needs to deliver decent speed on 3G handsets before they can talk about LTE.

it don't work like that.

one of the reasons for the limited speed on 3G is the speed is shared over the users on the cell. the 4G standards have more bandwidth.
