For the past 1 and a half months, the Coronation Street cast have been put through their paces after growing through a number of gruelling rounds - till we finally had our top 10! The votes are counted, but who has managed to grab the coveted placing? Will Kylie be able to win for the second year in a row? Will Carla repeat her 2011 showing and take the crown? Or will we have a completely new winner?

Before we find that out, we still have numbers 66-2 to go through! With each revealing of the character's place, I will where they ranked last year and their ranking history in general. I will also post a small paragraph of description for each character which will mostly be summarising their past year, how they did in the voting in general, why I think their ranking has changed if it has and occasionally what I think about the character etc. For some characters who are leaving it has been briefly mentioned at the end of their paragraphs, so if you try to avoid spoilers then just don't read the last line or so!

66 (N/A) Ritchie de Vries 2.96% (Round 1)

Ranking History: X-X-X-66

Debuting right at the bottom we have Dennis’ old flame, Ritchie de Vries! Ritchie managed to get the lowest percentage out of everyone in round 1, I think lots of this was due to the fact that many voters didn’t even seem to know who he was! We originally saw him plan a reunion with his ex-bandmates and manager Dennis. He wasn’t on for very long and his appearance was mildly amusing but not very memorable, although I am surprised that he ranked bottom over the other characters! We've recently seen Ritchie back on the show in the past week, but what else is planned for him on the street?

65 (N/A) Hope Stape 3.54% (Round 1)

Ranking History: X-X-X-65

Fiz’s daughter Hope doesn’t perform well in her first year of the competition! I thought Hope was old enough to be involved this year, although we really don’t see her much and when we do she’s not doing anything of note so this ranking is hardly a surprise. Hope does seem pretty cute and I liked her moments with Roy and Hayley, will we actually see Hope speak in 2014?

64 (N/A) Grace Piper 3.66% (Round 1)

Ranking History: X-X-X-64

In 64th place and the 3rd newcomer to this poll in a role, it’s Faye’s ex best mate Grace! I included Grace in this poll as I assumed she was going to appear again as I didn’t think the Faye storyline was over, although it looks like it might have now so we might not be seeing anymore of Grace. Contrary to the previous two characters, I think Grace actually did inspire a lot of emotion in people and her ranking is probably more to do with dislike than indifference! People have often referred to Faye as the devil child but Grace took into a whole new level, never thought I could dislike a child character as much as that She didn’t really seem like a realistic character either which I think contributes to her ranking, just a caricature bully with no redeeming features at all.

63 (63) Aadi Alahan 3.75% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 58-64-63-63

Standing still in the rankings, we have the first of Dev’s twins – Aadi Alahan! Aadi has actually been seen more than usual this year, due to his mother’s death at the hand of the rovers fire earlier in the year, and then the subsequent scenes with Mary Taylor later in the year which I really enjoyed. I was expecting Aadi to rise a little because of this but it wasn’t the case and he’s done just as awfully as he's done every other year!

62 (N/A) Maddie Heath 3.80% (Round 1)

Ranking History: X-X-X-62

Another newcomer now at 62, we have 'Maddeh' Heath! Maddie first appeared on Christmas Day last year and didn’t exactly make the best impression. Coming across as completely rude and obnoxious, viewers did not have sympathy for her homeless status which is reflected in this low ranking. Maddie has recently reappeared and there seems to be a bit more to the character than first revealed, although I still don't think most viwers are convinced. From what’s been said about her it looks like Maddie might be playing a big role in 2014 and looks set up to be the next Becky/Kylie type character, however her pairing with Sophie Webster, who is becoming increasingly unpopular, may work against her favour!

61 (65) Asha Alahan 4.02% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 60-66-65-61

Just escaping from the bottom 5 we have the second of Dev’s twins, Asha Alahan. Despite this being a pretty bad ranking, Asha has actually risen a few spaces from last year and gets her best ranking to date, having finished bottom the first two years and 2nd from bottom last year! Not really much to say about Asha that hasn’t been said for Aadi as they seem to only ever appear together, I suspect her slightly increased screen time may have led to her increase in ranking although not sure why that wouldn’t have worked for Aadi - perhaps Asha was just in a weaker heat! Interestingly Asha and Aadi have always finished 2 spaces apart from each other in the rankings, although this year the tables have turned and Asha ranks above Aadi for the first time in the competition!

60 (58) Sean Tully 4.25% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 43-60-58-60

Starting off the top 60 and with a slight drop from last year, it’s the ever popular Sean Tully! Sean’s never really been a DS favourite, although it seems from this poll that he really has become extra unlikeable in the past few years with his big drop from the first year to the second. Personally for me, Sean is my least favourite character. I think the character itself is dreadfully written, completely unlikeable and not funny at all – but also I would say Anthony Cotton is a large part of it, partly because of his acting abilities and also because of the dreadful stories I always hear about him! Lots of people think the reason Sean hasn’t been axed is because he holds something over the producers, although personally I just think it’s because he’s liked more out of DS so they don’t see the need to axe him. Quite frankly Sean hasn’t been involved in much in 2014, mostly seen as a background character to other people’s storylines or just seen nattering in Underworld or The Rovers. Most recently we’ve seen him unsuccessfully try to win the heart of Todd Grimshaw. Will we see more of Sean in 2014? I think me and many others hope not

59 (61) Jenna Kamara 4.47% (Round 1)

Ranking History: X-X-61-59

With a small rise from last year we have Jenna Kamara at 59! Most of Jenna’s stories this year have involved her status as lesbian, initilly coming out to her mum and then starting a relationship with Sophie Webster. She and Sophie had literally no chemistry and it was a very strange relationship, but it did all end abruptly leaving Jenna with nothing really to do now and no clear plan. It’s sad as I do actually think Jenna had potential, but I can’t see her avoiding the axe this year and I’m surprised she didn’t go at the same time as her mum. Although perhaps the fact that she wasn’t axed means they have big plans for her in this coming year?

58 (62) Liam Connor Jr. 4.57% (Round 1)

Ranking History: X-62-62-58

Up next and with a slight rise to 58, we have Maria Connor’s son Liam Connor Jr! Liam has probably been featured even less than usual due to the fact that Maria’s been a lot less included in the show this past year. I think the only times that he’s been seen is in the background of scenes in the café or salon, and a bit during that time when Audrey moved to Maria and Marcus’s flat for a few episodes. This does make it surprising that he’s managed to have a rise this year, however it could probably be put down to the fact that he might have been in a weaker group than past years. With Marcus and Maria set to take more of a central role with a big storyline coming up, will we see Liam more throughout 2014?

57 (N/A) Steph Britton 4.59% (Round 1)

Ranking History: X-X-X-57

We have one of our newer characters debuting at 57, Steph Britton! We’d seen Steph a few times throughout 2013 in scenes with Katy, but only became promoted to a permanent character later in the year. She hasn’t done much so far, only really being shown showing customers to their table in the bistro, and the decision to make her a permanent character seems a bit strange considering I don’t think she was massively popular in her first appearance? In scenes where we do get to see a bit more of Steph, she just comes across highly irritating and I think the writing’s been pretty bad for her so far. However, there is a small something I like about her and I think there is a possibility for her to become an alright character – and the news of her brother being cast means we should maybe expect Steph to take a bigger role in 2014!

56 (60) Faye Windass 5.08% (Round 1)

Ranking History: X-65-60-56

Somehow rising for the third year in a row, Faye Windass finishes in 56th place. I was definitely expecting Faye to rank nearer to the bottom considering the reaction to her most recent storyline with Grace, maybe the pairing with Grace balances her out and doesn’t make her seem as bad? Compared to most of the other child characters, Faye actually gets a bit more involved. This year has mostly involved her interaction with her biological dad, as well as the whole storyline with Grace. Faye is one of the characters who is subject to the largest amounts of abuse on DS, will that change in 2014?

55 (34) Michelle Connor 5.26% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 39-42-34-55

In 55th place, and with the biggest drop so far by quite a substantial margin, it’s Michelle Connor. Michelle’s actually had a pretty big year, going from a character who was usually in the shadow of others in the factory – to one of the focal points of the street as she became landlady of the Rovers! This hasn't seemed to do her any favours at all, however, and she now appears to be more unpopular than ever! Personally I’m on the side of the majority of here, Michelle has become totally loathsome since the move to the rovers. I’m really not sure what the writers are trying to do with her – do they want us to hate her? Or do they think her constant moaning, belittling and treatment that verges on bullying of Steve is supposed to be funny? I think Michelle is a character who works much better as a background character, all that putting her in charge of the Rovers has done is exposed the extremely negative aspects of her characters and in my opinion, she completely deserves this drop!

54 (46) Izzy Armstrong (5.99%)

Ranking History: 40-35-46-54

Another character with a drop, finishing at 54th is Izzy. I have to say that I don’t understand Izzy’s drop as much as Michelle’s, she’s not my favourite character by any means and definitely not played by the greatest actress, but I see her as pretty inoffensive with lots of good qualities. There does seem to be a lot of disdain for the Windass/Armstrong clan in general on DS though, and I think she did annoy people during the surrogacy storyline so I think that may explain the drop. Izzy’s biggest storyline in 2014 was definitely the surrogacy storyline, having taken more of a backseat role in other storylines since that climaxed. What will happen to Izzy in 2014?

53 (56) Amy Barlow 6.00% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 52-56-56-53

Amy manages a tiny rise from the past two years and finishes in 53rd place! Amy is actually one of my favourites out of the children characters. Despite having limited screen time and not really being involved in anything important, she always seems very pleasant and sweet on the rare moments we do see her on screen. There definitely seems to be more of Steve in her than Tracy at this point, however it will be interesting to see how she progresses as she gets older as I could imagine the writers would be more interested in taking her down the footsteps of Tracy more than anything else. Will 2014 see a change in Amy?

52 (53) Chesney Brown 6.17% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 45-50-53-52

In 52nd place and pretty much standing still in the rankings we have Chesney Brown! Chesney for me is a character who I don’t think has been able to transition well from childhood to adolescence/adulthood, I don’t think Sam Aston has been able to show he’s able to cope with the mature storylines too well and the character mostly now just fills me with indifference. Having said that, I don’t really have the negative feelings towards Chesney that I have towards some of the other characters, albeit he can be a little irritating at times! Chesney’s past year in the soap has mostly focused on his love life, following the breakdown of his relationship with Katy and subsequent forming of a relationship with Sinead! Will 2014 evoke further complications for Chesney’s love life?

51 (55) Max Turner 6.69% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 59-63-55-51

Just missing out on the top 50 but getting his highest ranking to date, we have Kylie’s son Max Turner! As you can tell from his ranking history, Max has had a small popularity rise in the past two years and that’s probably due to his increasing involvement in storylines since the Platt’s have become more at the forefront of the show. There’s not a whole lot to say about Max, he seems very pleasant and isn’t irritating like some of the other child characters, although he doesn’t really transcend the standard archetypal child role in Corrie. I do really like Max and David’s relationship though and always enjoy the scenes they share together!

50 (38) Fiz Stape 6.76% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 51-46-38-50

After rising in the rankings last year, Fiz takes a fatal blow and drops down twelve places. Personally for me I had actually been enjoying Fiz more than I had last year, I really detested her during the whole Kirsty/Tyrone storyline but I actually think she came across quite well during the earlier stages of the Hayley storyline. Having said that, I’ve now done a further 180 on her due to her reaction after Hayley’s death, where particularly in recent episodes she's come across as completely antagonistic and very selfish! Aside from the Hayley storyline, it’s actually been a relatively quit year for Fiz as we’ve seen her settle down happily with Tyrone after being able to escape Kirsty’s wrath. Will Fiz and Tyrone be able to maintain their happiness throughout the year?

49 (N/A) Kal Nazir 7.05% (Round 1)

Ranking History: X-X-X-49

In 49th place we have the next of our newcomers, Kal! Whilst 49th isn’t an amazing placing, it’s pretty good considering Kal had only been on screen a few weeks when his original heat took place! He hasn’t had a big entrance but I think so far we’ve seen Kal adapt quite nicely to the show and what I’ve seen of him I like. Despite this, we’ve only seen him interact with a limited number of characters and he hasn’t really been involved in anything major so I don’t think we can make a proper judgement on him yet. From the looks of things, with the arrival of his family and start-up of a new business, it looks like 2014 will be a big year for Kal and he will start to take a bigger role in the show!

48 (27) Tina McIntyre 7.18% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 23-29-27-48

Now we have the ranking I’m sure everyone’s been waiting for, it’s DS favourite Tina McIntyre! I think all things considered, Tina has perhaps been the most discussed Corrie character on DS over the past year (which is hardly surprising when you consider all she’s been involved in ) However as you can probably tell from the ranking that hasn’t exactly proved to be a good thing for Tina – her placing of 48th looks like an outlier in comparison to her perfect top 30 record in all the three years preceding this one! It’s hard to know where to start with discussing what Tina’s been involved in over the past year, she has been a main part of a ridiculous amount of big storylines! Her biggest storyline at the beginning of the year was the surrogacy storyline – personally for me this was the lowest point for Tina this year, I think she acted absolutely abhorrently selfish during this storyline and I was firmly on the side of the Windasses. She did slightly redeem herself by giving the baby back, however. Tina’s heartbreak over losing baby Joe/Jake is now a distant memory however – since then she’s been highly involved in the Platt saga, has suffered the breakdown of her relationship with Tommy and most recently embarked on an affair with Peter Barlow which may just take the award for the most ridiculous, contrived and unrealistic affair storyline in Corrie history. I think the way she’s acted during this storyline and personality transplant she’s seemed to endured is a big factor in her drop in ranking, however I also think it’s simply due to viewers getting tired and irritated with the over exposure of the character. This is all due to end soon as Tina looks set to leave the street in a further explosive storyline – meaning she leaves this competition on an all-time low!

47 (43) Sophie Webster 7.22% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 15-38-43-47

Sophie continues the trend and manages to drop even further this year to 47th place – a far cry from her top 15 placing in the first year of this competition! Sophie’s popularity peaked when she first came out as a lesbian and started a relationship with Sian, however since then she hasn’t really seemed to go anywhere as a character and has mostly just been lingering around like a bad smell. Most of her storylines this past year have been based around her love life – originally the bizarre relationship with Jenna which probably could not have had less chemistry if they tried, and most recently she seems to have taken an interest in Maddie. We have also seem some of the less favourable aspects of Sophie’s personality, particularly in that awful racism storyline! Judging by Maddie’s ranking, it doesn’t look like DS will take too well to the Maddie/Sophie relationship – will Sophie drop even further in ranking next year?

46 (44) Katy Armstrong 7.35% (Round 1)

Ranking History: 57-34-44-46

In 46th place we have Katy Armstrong! 2014 has mostly seen Katy torn between Ryan and Chesney – as she embarked on an affair with Ryan which in turn ended her relationship with Chesney. Ryan has now left the show and Chesney appears to have happily moved on with Sinead, which leaves Katy with not much left to do apart from appear in the background of scenes involving the more prominent Windass characters and is occasionally seen talking to Steph or looking after Joseph. I think Katy’s main role at the moment is serving as eye candy to the male viewers – will she have a bigger role in the show in 2014?
