I'm looking at losing the subscription to Sky but I still need to be able to record.

My question is, do I drop down to the Sky+ with recording for £10/month but with no initial outlay or opt for the Humax but only see a return after 20 months?

Of course in 2 years the tech may have moved on so I may need to consider what the next step is then,

Thanks,

If you add the excess power used by a Sky box in Sby over a Freesat box (taking the £200 Humax G2 500GB box), break even is about 16 months.

Do Sky still offer the £10.00/monthly recording anyway ? I thought I read somewhere it's no longer an option.

Buy a Humax - I think it's really poor value to pay for recording, if you want to keep the Sky box then drop to minimum subscription and get a wide range of extra quality programming for your money.

If you don't want to spend £21.50 a month?, then buy a Humax.

Humax every time , I dropped sky 18 months ago after reading about Humax on DS and I can honestly state its one of the best decisions I made and my pocket isn't being picked dry by Sky.

Just done exactly this - dumped Sky and got a Humax Freetime box which is a fantastic bit of kit.
Don't miss Sky at all and, with what I'm saving in subscriptions, I will recoup its cost in less than seven months
Plus if you register your new purchase with Humax you get a two year guarantee.

Thanks for the replies,

The only fly in the ointment is losing the football on Sky sports and BT.

I can connect an XBox to use Sky Go but it will have to be "live" which is a bit of a poo.

Looking at some reviews of the Humax it mentions "issues" with resuming play.

Can anyone confirm that, like the Sky+ box, you can stop a prog in the middle, watch something else and resume the 1st prog from the point it was stopped?

Never tried it , but it does most things sky plus does. As for footie switch to BT Broadband and you will get BT Sport and footie free. If you still yearn for footie and want to avoid Sky rip of prices look up "skybox" on ebay and connect it via your BT Broadband.....cant really go into to much detail ,,,research it online.

Can confirm "Resume" works on my 1000S - in the various menu options there is "resume" or "start from beginning".
Not had any problems yet with resuming playback on recordings.

Maybe you do WANT Sky then for sports , only you can decide

I take BB from BT to get free Bt sports, but it is not really comparable to the full Sky sports family

Surely you can only watch Sky via the Xbox live service as long as you subscribe to both Xbox live AND Sky ?
