one death here, another five there.

death after death, stunt after stunt. sensationalism after sensationalism, ridiculous storyline after another, DREADFUL characters. even more dreadful acting, SONNY VALENTINE?? really??

there is no substance to this show at all anymore.

i was planning to give up watching after the climax of johnpauls storyline, but this is clearly going to be dragged out for all its worth and i dont think i want to invest any more time in this drivvel.

unless someone, somewhere can tell me its going to get better ?
is kirkwood leaving ??

No unfortunately he isn't - that's his forte isn't it? Ruining every soap he touches! (EE, now HO..) and I agree the actor that's plays Sonny is shocking, how the hell did he get a part?!

The same way David Witts got the part of Joey Branning. Kirkwood likes to see nude men and doesn't care about their acting. I expect Sonny to be walking around topless by April.

Hollyoaks is complete rubbish nowadays and it isn't worth watching. There's nothing interesting there.

Completely agree. HO used to be great and it actually makes me sad when I look back on the 2011-2012 era as it was so good IMO no matter what people on here say

The John Paul storyline is great - not interested in the rest of Hollyoaks though at the moment.

Ruby and Ziggy has tipped me over the edge.
We are supposed to believe they were madly in love ?

I'm with you Aura! it's a load of sensationalist drivel where characters are ruined and/or killed off in ridiculous over the top stunts

I still tune in because i've always loved it but i don't care if i miss an episode as it's just beyond comprehension at the moment

The only shinning light for me is Cindy, dunno why but she's become my favourite character. I feel like we've hardly seen John Paul since he was raped and that's sort of undermined what he has suffered.

There's just so many characters I don't like or care about now. I don't recognise this as Hollyoaks anymore, really.

Wouldn't mind another dead if it involves Sonny never being on screen again.

It was probably Kirkwood trying to be smart. He really had something against Devon Anderson so he tried to get a dig in by recasting his character.

I don't think the new Sonny is that bad but Devon Anderson is a good actor. I don't understand why the recast was necessary tbh. Maybe Devon still appears to young to be convincingly a policeman, or something. The new actor also looks a bit more Calvin-esque so maybe that had something to do with it too.

The sad thing for me is that he seems to have been brought in just because Kirkwood had no appreciation for Jim. The audience generally loved him and the relationship with Carmel but BK seems to have decided he knows better and axed them both and replaced it with shit. Two weeks was it? before Carmel moved on to Sonny. Hollyoaks need to stop with this crap. People grieve, they don't just replace the person they loved like that.

The last episode I watched was where they killed Jim completely unnecessarily. It annoyed me so much I haven't watched it since. I do like Cindy and would have wanted to see her baby storyline but then read it would involve the tedium of more Browning stuff and I just thought I can't be bothered. Can't say I've missed it or have any desire to start watching it again.

Really pleased to see this thread as I thought maybe I was just getting too old for it I've always watched on 4 OD but now I look at the episode synopsis and I just cannot be bothered. I loathe Grace and Trevor and despair of Freddie and Sonny and just don't want to watch the Roscoes or the Lomaxes. It's just too hard to watch nowadays.

You know the soap is in trouble when Waterloo Road has started being more realistic...

Jim was a very popular character so why on earth did Kirkwood even consider axing him?

I don't actually think its that bad tbh.

The pacing just needs to be better. They also need to chill on the deaths every week.

I also agree the new Sonny is appalling.

But over than that I do think its gripping enough to sustain viewers. Pacing desperately needs to improve however.

It's been a bit over the top for a few months but killing Jim has annoyed me. I still watch but not overly fussed if i miss it anymore.
