I have been asked to make some Gluten free cakes and cupcakes.
Can I just use my normal recipe and substitute Self Raising flour for Gluten free self raising flour ?
Are there any other things to consider or is that it ?

It's as simple as that. It really is that easy. No extra steps necessary. I made some for the first time last year and was so surprised that they tasted just as good as regular cakes.

Thanks, Victoria.
Someone said I should add some Gluten Free baking powder to help the cakes rise.
Is that right ?

Yes. The 'doves farm' range is great. And in most good supermarkets.

I would also use some of this though http://www.dovesfarm.co.uk/flour-and...-gum-1-x-100g/

Its not essential but it made a difference with my protein cakes which fell to pieces on my first attempt without it

I suppose there's no harm in doing so, but I found I didn't need it.

I used this brand, Doves Farm: http://www.ocado.com/product/4113201...FdShtAodHi4Acg

Edit: Ah I see Aura rec'd it also. It's so far the only brand I have used but I found it to be try good.

I went to Sainsbury's on Saturday and I got a bag of Doves Farm Gluten Free SR flour and I made some GF Orange cupcakes.
When I tasted the cake batter, I could 'feel' the flour, but the cakes turned out fine
