Orange 3G Coverage Improvement
I have just signed up with Orange on one of there 3G tarrifs. I live in Scarborough and although I can get 3G coverage it is pretty patchy. Is there anyone who knows if Orange will be improving 3G coverage further, also do they just upgrade present Orange transmitters or do they have to start from scratch?

all orange do is upgrade the existing transmitters so the job is half done. so you dont have to worry about the petition collectors getting on their high horses

Good, hopefully there will be some improvment soon in my area. The local rag is always running some story about people glowing in the dark due to phone masts!

This website lists every the location and type of every mobile base station in the uk
http://www.sitefinder.radio.gov.uk/ type in your postcode then click on the small blue triangles to see which mobile provider and system they are. look out for masts which are Orange UMTS. You may find your local base stations have already been upgraded to UMTS (3G) and waiting to be brought into service. |

Had a look and the only Orange UMTS mast is on Olivers Mount which is where the local TV and radio come from. All the Orange masts in the actual town are just GSM so it doesn't look good.

Down the road in Bridlington the "Furture coverage" on the Orange web site showed some good improvement. Sadly, since the new year this improvement is not showing.
This tells me that Orange are having second thoughts about 3G upgrades
