i have just found out its only sold 600,000 copies in usa and hasnt gone platinum in uk. Its dropped out the charts in usa too.

Applause didnt do too well compared to her previous hits and god knows whats happened with do what you want (video???).

She did a massive promo tour everywhere so its not like no one knew it was out, and even did the whole get a single free if you preorder campaign.

Are people over her? Or is the album and singles just not good enough?

Thoughts.

(Ps. I mean flop as in flop against her owns high standards, she was a selling machine a few years back)

Not necessarily a flop but perhaps a deep disappointment for her standards. I think, if she hasn't already, she'll become a 'cult' like artist that the core fan base will buy music. I'm a fan and all I concern myself with is the music which I still enjoy.

I do believe the handelling of the era behind the scenes has led to an underperformance. Applause was a marmite choice for fans, Do what you want having controversy with R Kelly's input leading to panic of putting Xtina on a remix and the ridiculous delay of the video for that song.

The music just isn't as good as it was. With the exception of Applause and Mary Jane Holland, none of it really has pop appeal.

This. She has basically become an artist similar to that of Prince. Which is nothing to be frowned upon. The fans she has are committed enough to her for the time being and that's all what matters.

Sexx Dreams

Mary Jane Holland
Artpop

I'm hardly a Gaga fan but to me it was a mixture of things:

her fan base has a bad reputation (sad because the minority spoil it for the rest)
substandard songs
bad press
wrong producers
Katy Perry- Roar was an absolute beast and she is really unpretentious musically as well as image wise so PRISM had a mass appeal.
It may not have sold brilliantly, but for me, it's still a great album.

Swine and Gypsy are my two favs, but I do like every song on the album. The only thing I don't like is how applause follows gypsy, it sounds like an after thought. Gypsy would be the perfect final track.

I don't mean to sound like the forum police. But couldn't this have gone in the Artpop thread?!

It has been discussed over, and over, and over, and over, and over.

And the moral of the story is 'gaga sells less than her previous two albums' .

Why? Because its not as good as her previous two albums.

Though people who don't even like her seem to be more obsessed with her than the fans are !

No, there won't be any video for DWUW.

She has been very vocal about the campaign not going in the direction she wanted it to, so she is effectively starting it all over again.

She's just wrapped a week long shoot at Hearst Castle, allegedly for a double release of Venus and G.U.Y. The shoot looked amazing and this is clearly a huge deal. The budget must have been enormous.

I think there's life in this campaign yet. She's got a performance in the US on Tuesday so that will get her out and about again.

Also, it hasn't sold as well as anybody would have hoped, but it hasn't dropped out of the charts. It's number 59 and I'm sure it'll climb over the next few weeks when promo kicks in again.

Didn't she film it a vid for DWYW though? I'm sorry it'll be wasted as I LOVE the track.

yes i completely understand what you mean - the track listing isn't quite right ... and 'applause' is very much misplaced but I feel the title is too. This album was about addictions - drugs- sex, alcohol, fame, objectification and fashion.... I love the album title but it doesn't fit the theme completely, but it does with a more coherent tracklist

my ideal track list would be

1. Artpop
2. Sexx dreams
3. Venus
4. GUY
5. Fashion!
6. Donatella
7. Applause
8. Swine
9. Aura
10. Mary jane Holland
11. Gypsy
12. Dope

for me it just flows better - a 4 star album !

Yes. She said they were having problems editing it and she just couldn't get it right, so that's why it was delayed. However, there was a lot of speculation that the real reason was the attention R Kelly was getting, in relation to the allegations against him. Releasing a video which, from what we were led to believe, was essentially just them two going at it for 4 minutes, wouldn't have done her any favours.

So it was canned and she's moving on. I don't think she ever really wanted it released anyway. It was the label's kneejerk reaction to it going to number 1 on iTunes all over the world. She clearly wanted Venus all along.

However, DWUW did alright. It sold a million in the US, it's over 200,000 here (not including approximately 70,000 sales from when it an ineligible instant grat track) and it charted well pretty much everywhere. It wasn't a total waste of time.

Such a shame as it is one of my fave GAGA tracks after BR. It would've been nice to see a video, and yes, it's done really well and has stuck around for ages.

It's quite incredible that were about a week away from the 6 month anniversary of the applause video and the fact there hasn't been one since really seems up the mess this campaign has been which im sure has been very fustrating for her but it makes you think how on earth can they mess it up like this at one stage we had videos for Venus and dwuw and now we have neither

Having said that if I was told I could only keep one album on my iTunes library out of this prism Britney Jean and beyonce artpop would still win hands down

Out of interest does anyone know the current worldwide sales of each of these 4 albums I'm guessing beyonce is leading the way

She's certainly not as big a deal as she once was and she isn't selling nearly as much as she once was, but it's still not a flop. It's not like the album has sold terribly and the singles have bombed, it just isn't as massive as her other albums (which would have been pretty hard to do, wouldn't it).

I'm in no way a Lady GaGa fan, but she seems to have a pretty big and solid fan base who will continue to appreciate her music/style etc (shown by the sell out tour she has coming up). Upon saying that, don't be too quick to write her off yet, i'm sure she will be back sooner or later with the more buzz and higher sales. *little sigh*

The reason this is not in the Artpop thread is because this sort of question attracts a lot of hate and is shot down.

Does anyone think this era could be saved by perhaps any song or anything by that matter? As it seems gaga still has hope for this album.

I never thought of her having a cult type of music, but if she has then its really sad.
I prefer her massive stompers rather than her weird message songs, i think she is so talented and genuinely seems nice.

I find it hilarious that she released a not hugely successful album with a title that rhymes with 'chart flop'!

Its a massive flop FOR HER, I can't believe its only sold 600,000 in the US! That's amazing considering her last album did nearly double that in a week (with some help of course).

It's funny how people (little monsters) slated Beyonce's 4 for being her lowest selling album yet it's sold more than double than Artpop, and they way people have said that Rihanna isn't an album seller yet she has managed to sell at least 1 million of each album in the states and more worldwide, yet some of these albums are still considered flops!

Not surprised at those numbers, it's Britney's worst album to date!
