Whats happened to Call the Midwife the last few episodes? Last weeks episode was its lowest overnight rating since series 1. Yesterdays episode was its worst overnight rating since its first ever episode.
TV ratings in general seem to have been down for the past few weeks.

Do we have a rough idea of how many who have BARB boxes may have been effected by the floods?

Call the Midwife last week was 19000 viewers from the week before and at least 4 episode last year got rating worse than that what are you talking about.

As for this week very heavy storyline what you would call niche with the Pregnant downs Syndrome girl and her dead baby, not easy viewing at at all, technically its the lowest episode with Miranda Hart.

Doesn't sound like The BAFTAs or Blandings did particularly well.

And I was right.

"@Jake_Kanter: The Bafta Film Awards drew 4.6m (22.1%) viewers, its lowest audience since 2010. #tellyratings"
Baftas low as expected - definately the worst awards show on the planet - could they make it any more dull if they tried?

"@mediaguardian: Midwife 8.4m/30.9%, Top Gear 5.5m/20.3%, Dancing on Ice 5m/22% & 4.3m/15.7%, Mr Selfridge 4.8m/20.3%, Baftas 4.6m/22%, #tvratings"

Greater competition from BBC2?
Exactly. I still don't understand the BBC's logic in pitting two of their most popular shows against one another: it's almost as if Danny Cohen and the scheduling department think, "The girls can watch Midwife on One and the guys can watch Top Gear on Two. It doesn't matter that it will mean neither show can reach its full potential in the ratings." Stupid scheduling.

Very bad for Dancing on Ice to rate below 5m for the performance show [excl +1]. Mr Selfridge not benefitting from weaker competition, it is toast.

Mr Selfridge hasn't benefitted at all from the big drop The Musketeers has had, so hardly surprising it didn't get a big boost when it took the night off. Plus the Baftas would be a similarly upmarket audience. Mr Selfridge has stabilised now while at a lower level than I would like, I think it will be back next year.

Very strange how CTM keeps trickling down, have enjoyed this series so far, maybe it has just reached its peak?

The timeshifts for Midwife are lower than for series 1 as well and hasn't topped bits series 1 rating of 11.41m.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Rising Star. Could it do to Midwife what Midwife did to Dancing On Ice/Wild At Heart?

Does anybody know what Blandings got on BBC1 yesterday?

Big boot in the balls to those who thought people don't watch much live TV or watch TV through other devices other than a TV.

It is people that don't work on big shows that tend to think linear TV is dead.

Everything does eventually - Doc Martin was well down this year as well as an example.

But Doc Martin was in its sixth series by then, Call The Midwife is only on its third. Ratings are still good but it looks like it peaked with the first series. Some other shows peaked in their second or third series.

3.6m for Blandings. It launched with 5.7m then ratings dropped across the run. Why bring this crap back?

14.0% all-day share for BBC Two, just a little down on last Sunday. It narrowly beat ITV (around 13.7%). BBC One had 18.2%; Channel 4, 6.1% approx; Channel 5, 4.0%. All inc +1.

That's very impressive for BBC2. Have they had an all day share like that before in recent times?

Agree with the first part, DOI is now going through the motions and in two weeks time will be history, dumped in ITV's vaults never to be seen again. However, Mr Selfridge is doing OK and 4.8 million isn't bad.

I guess it just did enough. Personally I love it, Jeeves and Wooster was a masterpiece on ITV and although Blandings isn't in that league its absurd enough to make it a nice half hours escapism. Jennifer Saunders is brilliant with the wittiest part of the script, and rather underused. Having said that last night was not good, the Harry Enfield character and the storyline might just have sealed its fate-poor choice for episode 1 imo.

I dont get it either although it clearly does have an audience. 3.6m at that time is a bit low though.

Yes it worked well with Larkrise to Candleford as the combination started the weakening process regarding DOI and Wild at Heart. Although it did well Larkrise was never a behemoth. Call the Midwife though is a level above and maybe you want the clearest run possible for your big hitters. Downton doesn't have that kind of problem from the BBC so its does seem peculiar that the BBC ramps up the competition against itself.

(awaits the BBC should not just be about ratings responses )

EDIT-have caught up with CTM in the last few days and personally I think its better now than series 1.

God knows how it did enough! Blandings launched lower than some of its lowest rated series 1 episodes.
