What you are witnessing is a classic PR way of getting rid of someone who has decided to leave you for a rival broadcaster. The BBC probably leaked to the press that Reid had marital problems [they must've known internally for weeks] once they found out about her moving to Itv, and now are using that as a reason to "give her a break" [or in other words, quietly get rid of her]. Now what has happened is that she is leaving with a negative public opinion of her. Wouldnt surprise me if it was the Beeb who leaked to the press she was being offered £1million a year by Itv, to hype up the money aspect to increase the negative tone against her and her new Itv venture. By the time Good Morning Britain starts on April 28th, everyone will be waiting for it to fail. The BBC has played this very well overall.

As far as I'm aware, no one comes on here after DIP, and says "Brilliant episode of DIP tonight, best episode of the series. Deserves far greater ratings". Instead most just wait to comment the day after once the ratings come in. It doesn't irritate me, it makes me think that you are somehow desperate to draw attention to ITV shows constantly, in exactly the same way as Samuel does for BBC.

Well obviously we are not all clones. But other members such as Icedragon complement every BBC drama - no comment there. Or you came on here and saying how BBC1 had a great lineup and a great 3 hours of telly with Countryfile, CTM and The Musketeers. Everyone comes on here praising a programme, that must mean they're all trying to draw attention to a BBC/ITV programme.

Most might comment the day after, but some do after the episode airs - yet you don't have a problem with that. We both know why you have a problem so don't keep pretending.

For those interested in Eurovision, it is rumoured that the UK song this year is by an unknown artist called Molly and is singing a song called Children of the Universe and reaction from those who were there at tonights recording is unusually positive as people say that the song is actually amazing and this is our best chance for years. Even a Swedish producer has described it as BIG HIT!

The UK wont win unfortunately, even if it had the best song ever. Too much regional voting goes on, which will prevent the UK from doing very well. It's one of many flaws which Eurovision has.

Rubbish. Countries vote for the song they like the most. Germany is hardly popular throughout Europe. Yet they won in 2010. Regional voting will always occur, the UK gives Ireland 12 points usually, but it isn't the amount of 12 points you get from your neighbours that creates a winner, it's the amount of consistent 6- 8 points a country gets that makes them the winner.

Politics aside, the UK really isn't that much thought about in Europe. even if we think we are!

And a good reason why the BBC should pack it in and save some money.

We're off to Denmark this May, despite only one of their Nordic neighbours (Iceland) giving them maximum points. How do you work that one out?

The BBC pays around a couple of million of quid for the ESC rights. In return it gets 7 hours of live TV spread over three days and ratings on a Saturday of around 9m viewers. Pretty cheap telly really, and the ESC has a huge UK fanbase.

Eurovision is very cheap and gets good ratings. The BBC wont pack it in.

Sorry but no one can pretend regional voting does not exist and makes the whole thing appear stupid. Graham Norton can even predict where certain countries are going to give their main points to as they have done the same in previous years.

Of course it's stupid to pretend regional voting doesn't exist. But it's equally as stupid to say it prevents any country from winning/doing well

Given that pundits are former players or managers in the Premier League, I suspect they'll struggle to find many qualified female candidates for MOTD. This is likely one of those big liberal forward thinking policies that makes Mr Cohen look very Director General-like but won't actually make it into practice. Perhaps more likely will be an attempt to put more black players on the sofa.

And the policy for panel shows isn't going to help anyone. The main issue is the lack of female comedic talent and that's something that applies in comedy clubs across the country right through to Edinburgh. TV shows are fed by those platforms. Producers generally want female panelists although the way Cohen is treating this you'd think they didn't. Sarah Millican manages to be very average and yet get booked for everything because producers are so happy to have a decent enough female comic on their shows. Panel shows, and Mock The Week in particular, are very competitive environments. Being the "token female" isn't a particularly desirable position and will likely put off many candidates.

PS: Samuel's daily salivating at the marital breakdown of a TV presenter makes for mildly unpleasant reading on this thread of late... I mean it's not as bad as the time he tried to use Paul O'Grady's ill health against itv but it's distasteful nonetheless.

Strangely enough this years Eurovision (Copenhagen) is only a few miles away from Last years in Malmo, (less than 20 miles)

I cant argue with you on the facts as I simply dont know them. The BBC is one of the biggest contributors to the funding though I know that and would ask why thats the case.
