Just saw the first bit and then a bit of Wogan and it looked entertaining enough.

Ok my summary of MM. I thought it was really funny but if am honest there wasn't much chatting. The poor guest didn't mange to get much of a word in edge ways.

In a nice cushy post news (5m+) slot you'd certainly think so wouldn't you. And since they've paid him £500,000 to do it I imagine the BBC hope he'll get Graham Norton type ratings.

Why would the thread have a meltdown over Biffa coming back? Least surprising news ever.

It'll probably work, but it's not like she was doing owt else was it?

Disappointing really, it wasn't that good, in fact I found myself getting bored. I think MM should just stick to what he does best, being a stand up comedian.

I've read many newspapers/magazines which state that is his wage for this series - although its not 100%, but trustworthy newspapers such as The times have reported it so its more than likely to be true.

Cheryl's return seems to have gone down well, so a sign of The X Factor could return to some healthy figures. I expect at least 1m+ average up on last series to this years with the news of Simon and Cheryl return.

I wouldn't call any paper trustworthy.

Really? Am seeing mixed views. Still as you said am expecting to see it get a boost from them both returning. The big question will be weather the show can sub stain that boost.

The poll on Digital Spy is 60% positive

Do you mean sustain?

The X Factor is able to keep hold of 90% of its audience throughout, from the auditions, so its different from TVUK in that respect.

Doctor Who vs The X Factor will be a fascinating battle this Autumn.

Wonder how BBC will play it, start Doctor Who against it from the off or wait until it has Strictly to act as a lead in? I think they should do the latter as the new Doctor hype can only take it so far. Would mean no room for Atlantis but that's not a bad thing, more time for the producers to tweak it and gives them something else to show early 2015.

(Also so grateful for a break from the seven straight "this poster is on your ignore list" posts.)

If same old same old is your thing then it might set your pulse racing, otherwise no.

I won't be watching either and couldn't care less what happens to either. Suppose it's borderline interesting from a wider point of view with ITV whether they can get things back on track in Q4 but gut feeling is any reversal in fortunes for TXF will be very temporary. The dynamic between Cole and Cowell may have evolved but it's not enough of a selling point; the format is still tired, any attempts to freshen it up have been rejected by the audience (hence more of the old) and there's too much competition in the genre.

I thought Doctor Who was going to start in August (presumably around the same time as The X Factor did before 2013) and finish before Strictly airs with Atlantis taking it's place? Though I have no idea where I heard this.

Interesting from a ratings thread point of view. New Doctor for Doctor Who and dome old faces returning to X Factor to try and boost it.

Have a sneaking suspicion though that ITV bought Rising Star as a long-term replacement for X Factor.

It's been brought up on this thread quite a few times, but there's been nothing elsewhere to suggest when it's going to air. It's filming until August so the turnaround will be tight if that's the case, especially for the later episodes. I think it would be best for both shows to hold Atlantis back but who knows what BBC plan to do, the most awkward thing probably.

Doctor Who is back in the Autumn that suggests August so it can be out if the way by October for when Strictly and possibly Atlantis launch.

More like they panicked realising that Dancing on Ice had lost it's edge leaving them exceptionally weak in Quarter One. This country is not really big enough to support two singing shows, let alone three (four if you include Britain's Got Talent). Alongside the concerns relating to their winter schedule I think ITV wanted to get hold of Rising Star in case the latest revamp of The Voice failed and the BBC went shopping for another singing show which could further hurt The X Factor. But really it isn't needed; Splash! may have been derided but at least it was something different.

Reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer asks Mr Burns for his old job back.

A Monday at 10:35 pm ?
I don't think it will do that well tbh. It's more better suited to Weekends.
Perhaps he could have just filled the Friday slot when Norton is off air.

I should think many would have gone to bed after the stress of the first day back to work for many.

Even if Doctor who starts at the end of August it won't be finished by the time Stricly starts.

Strictly normally airs it's launch show early September with the live shows staring a few weeks later

Just another four months and the first set of plans for Strictly will in the press.

@TVRatingsUK: BBC1's #TheMichaelMcIntyreChatShow began last night with 2.41m/21.9%, the highest rated programme in the post News slot this year.

Completely forgot this was on last night.
