A Prime Suspect prequel could work but they've already got Endeavour so it might seem like a retread and whoever would get the role of Jane Tennison would have big boots to fill,

La Plante has seen that the prequel to Morse has been popular, and you certainly cant blame ITV for thinking it would be a good fit on their channel.

How a prequel to A Touch of Frost?. They could call it Frosty Day...

On a serious note A Touch of Frost prequel would be pretty interesting.

Did I dream they were thinking of doing a New Tricks when they were 'young'?

Prequels can be great if done right, Endeavour is brilliant and I didn't really watch Morse or Lewis before that.

Thanks for the Modern Family figures Cylon, not bad opposite the soaps.

Thanks that's interesting. I thought EE was well ahead in the timeshift stakes. When will iPlayer be considered on all platforms?

Also when BBC1+1 comes along surely that will mark the end of the BBC 3 repeat?

Emmerdale didn't overtake it on a few occasions, it overtook it consistently for many many weeks, much longer than anyone expected. It wasn't just a load of fuss made over one shock rating, that is often the case here

At the same time, one half decent storyline on Corrie would cause that to increase as well. It's fair to say Corrie is going through a dull patch at the moment with most storylines being smaller ones that usually support the main one, and certain characters are becoming quite annoying.

Although, and correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think Emmerdale ratings dropped during Blackburn's era, just that some storylines were not to their taste. Didn't he bring us Killer Cameron?

That Channel 5 debate (or 'row' as they deliberately called it) sounds awful, TV designed to trend on Twitter with no underlying serious element. At least shock docs about people with strange body parts generally have an underlying story to tell.

Even better considering how far behind the US airdate we are and that the first episode was On Demand for a week!

We must now be aproaching the point at which the year on year comparisons will look more favorable. Last Year this was the point at which EE started to fall of fast.

This year it is steady still. Is Corrie starting to fall back now? It's not looking as strong now.

Emmerdale is solid.

Will be interesting to see how Silk does next week. Something tells me it will be a lowish overnight and a good timeshift. Really happy they are using monday for a Drama and Friday as well.

I'll do some digging over the year on year EastEnders Comparisons.

Predictably some are having a field day but you could make the same points about Four's debate. Hard to rate badly out of Benefits Street: The Last Word but the AI scores were probably terrible for both programmes.

I see the thread has stooped as low as writing horrible things about the lovely Anne Diamond. At least she's not totally obnoxious like Richard Bacon. It just wasn't the right vehicle for her.

Athletics hasn't even signed up for it making it a very difficult sell, though most of the other key Olympic sports are there.

Agree it's stupid though now athletics has (unwisely) added an extra European event in Olympic years, devaluing the status of European Champions quite considerably, and then this on top is a step too far, but the EAA clearly not wanting to give up their own event and probably have the most to lose from joining forces with other sport. I do think it should be half way between Olympics too - OK, we have the Commonwealth Games but the rest of Europe doesn't and most big sports have their World Champs in odd years, so makes sense to slot them in half way between the Olympics.

P.S. Good to see C4 thrash C5's debate last night, and a nice return for My Big Fat Diary too, up nearly 200k year on year. Also interesting to see that 7m people watched Broadchurch in France. That's kind of the equivalent of 10m or so Brits watching a French drama.

Okay I've found the Overnights for EastEnders week beginning Monday 18th of Feb

MON-7.66m (31.4%)
TUE-7.76m (33.2%)
THU-6.16m (26.0%) (Emmerdale Clash)
FRI-7.74m (33.0%)

So it's broadly in line with last year, it has stopped falling now and leveled out. It's certainly made a little ground since december.

Corrie Comparisons for the same week. No +1 included.

MON-9.47m (39.9%) & 9.07m (36.2%)
WED-8.53m (36.6%)
FRI-8.52m (37.7%) & 8.19m (33.7%)

Hmmm?? It's certainly down.

Thanks for digging Ken. The shares (current and past) are very telling aren't they? EE's share is still low 30s in %

Yes it's actually bang on where it was last year. Will be interesting to see where it is this time next year or in a few months.

But in the space of two weeks the EE year on year comparisons suddenly look slightly more favorable. That's how quick it fell last year. This year it's not budged really.

Might as well have ran an hour of C4 execs high-fiving eachother then doing the Harlem shake. Benefits Street was a gift from the ratings gods but now it's over and the cupboard is looking bare once again.

Poor retention from the clapped out 8 Out of 10 Cats. No more shock docs left to run ?

Thinking about it, with the upcoming SNT, would Ashley Roberts be good as either a judge on Rising Star or presenter. She is certainly good in DOI and Takeaway, having learnt and improved. She would be a good choice for ITV to consider since she seems to have a nice contract with ITV and could go far.

Gogglebox is on the move. New series will be scheduled on Fridays @ 9PM from March 7.

Fairly easy slot particularly if Edge of Heaven is a flop so should continue its progression there.

I think this year Emmerdale will be a reliable performer, it seems to have a loyal audience that seems to hover around the 7 million mark. Maybe a case of it having a lot of loyal, older viewers who don't drift away when it goes into a quiet period.

Edit: Oh, it's about the set move. You'd think they would air it out of Corrie at least.

This will be the series where it probably grows into a huge hit. Will face two episodes of Jonathan Creek.

Thanks DMN.

Corrie still delivering big numbers after timeshift and good to see DCI Banks doing well.

Winter Olympic ratings down to when Team GB doesn't do well?

Probably. This is C4 so no surprise to see it back so quickly and a 12 episode run as well.

Think it's a good bit of scheduling though.

Superb rating - only 40k down from last week. What an absolute change of fortune, from a 5m+ rater too 7m+. A timeshift of 1.59m

Perhaps ITV could grw Law & Order UK into a 7m+ sized hit. Although both are not the strongest of dramas.
