UK TV Ratings ‏@TVRatingsUK 40s
'@antanddec's #SaturdayNightTakeaway topped last night's ratings with 6.18m/29.1%. #TheVoiceUK was watched by an average of 5.94m/28.3%.

Low all round. Was probably neck and neck factoring out +1. I thought The Voice would grow and grow and grow (least that's what Samuel said back in January). And it should've done as last night's show was really good.”

Shame the Voice isn't higher as others have said it was a great show last night. However it's still up on last year and without plus one guessing beat SNT again.

In fairness tobi you never watched the Voice so how would you no.

It was but it didn't feel like a semi final of a major show.

Something still goes awry in the knockout rounds. As others have suggested perhaps a lack of relating to contestants or the small studio feel..

Difficult to attribute it to one thing

That's ok. I record and watch it later. I am disappointed with the finalists to be honest. I think that they only appeal to an older audience. There is no one who would inspire younger people to watch. At least Leah was a good singer and was a relevant artist last year.

TVUK holding up better than last year but there certainly seems to be a flaw in the format but its average is well up so they cant complain too much. Also doing a much better job of holding SNT in check that many predicted. Wonder if everything else was down last night - looks likely.

But thats how you win the ratings! Or so we've been told at least!

It still does a good job on timeshift/iPlayer though, which is why they have renewed it for a further 2 years.

the show badly needs a successful winner though, even though XFactor is mocked for some of its winners, you can't argue with the success of its alumni such as One Direction, Leona Lewis, JLS, Olly Murs, Alexandra Burke, Cher Lloyd etc

it doesn't even have to be mainstream chart success, being a success in the 'Radio2' market would be fine too, they just need someone who can shift records. Christina Marie seems the most likely of the current crop.

No you win the ratings by appealing to all ages, that is why Britain's Got Talent is a ratings succcess.

Not as good as I thought for Casualty last night, how did the L&O repeat get on?

Part of this is culture I reckon, I cant help thinking that if Sam Bailey had originated via The Voice she would have struggled just the same as much as any of the people on TV. Boybands ofcourse cant start via TV and XF is the most perfect vehicle to put them together and the teen and pre-teen market is like gold dust.
It seems the public are perfectly happy to watch The Voice but have no desire to rush around buying recordings, whereas X Factor seems to have half a million potential buyers at will for whoever wins the competition or indeed for the near misses. There is no real logic to this other than its a culture that's developed and sustained since XF early days as a run on from Pop Idol etc.
Nothing against any of the remaining artists on TV but if Sally wins then I doubt she will be making much impression on the singles market and will have to hope her nice vocals can persuade people to buy her albums. But there is absolutely no guarantee and the remaining three will be lucky to find much of a springboard at all.

So the trailers / Connie Beauchamp's return to Holby did nothing for Casualty, falling from 5.61m to 4.99m.

Looks like the very unimaginative, uninspired Law and Order repeat on itv damaged it. Oh well.

'The Voice' figure is underwhelming and disappointing given it got it right last night. It was an entertainment show!

Reboot the format if this is gonna keep happening again and again. Although producers aren't cottoning on that the knockouts are to blame for the ratings sinking and given they have been handed another series after 2015, they may not bother tweeking the format.

Low all around last night. Maybe the weather was a factor.

The Voice once again the most watched program of the day [excluding repeats/+1/pvr] for the 9th week in a row. Up almost 2million viewers from last year's semi final even though it was a boiling hot day yesterday, with temperatures reaching the highest the UK has faced all year. At present, the Voice remains the UK's most popular entertainment series so far this year, and ratings have risen by an average of almost 1million viewers compared to last year. Saturday Night Takeaway, even with a special appearance from Simon Cowell, could not prevent itself from rating a million viewers down from the same episode last year, continuing Itv's existing record of all returning entertainment series in 2014 rating lower than 2013.

Only 1.24million for the Bore and Order UK repeat, a shocking rating for a British program in an Itv Saturday night primetime slot . Certainly got a good battering from Casualty.

You make money by doing that. But if the only aim is a high overnight figure then chasing older viewers tends to be a good move, particularly for drama. BGT, XF, IAC are the exceptions to a rule that we see in practice most days - old people shows rate a lot better than young people shows.

Last year's semi final got 5.8m so it was actually only 0.1m up year to year. Worth remembering too that last year's semi final got that rating on a hot day in June, so you can't really use the weather for year to year comparisons considering last year it was on in June. Week to week comparisons then fair enough but not comparing June to March. I notice you didn't mention the weather when talking about Takeaway, nor did you mention that Takeaway won head to head (even without +1). Nor that with +1 Takeaway won the night yet again. Also, Simon Cowell was literally on it for about 10 seconds, why on earth would that affect the ratings at all?

Sometimes Samuel you make some really great points, then you just ruin it for yourself with posts like that one.

Shocking, but not surprising (if you get what I mean ). I've no idea what on earth they expected to happen. They might have had better luck had they picked an episode from a previous series, but picking the episode aired three days ago was a woeful move. The really sad thing is that it was still an improvement on The Americans.

Terrible a repeat of a show from 3 days ago which got 4.3m gets thrashed by a new heavily trailed episode of Casualty with an extremely popular returning character, who would have thought that... (We really need the rolls eye smiley back!)
