I suspect given the excellent slot, ITV might be looking for a 5.5m+ start for Amazing Grey's and hold around 5million for the rest of the series. Through The Keyhole started with 5m+ with Keith Lemon presenting, so I seeno reason why it can't get a similar or higher figure. It should hold onto a good chuck of BGT.

Okay fair enough, shame it's for Monday and not Friday, when Pointless explicably does better, or did do the last I saw.

I see +1 as a convenience issue, I use them all the time for the other channels because it occasionally works for me. So I'd like it with the BBC.

It's not like I use it all the time, but it could come in handy when there are a lot of things on. Tomorrow is a perfect example where it would come in handy with Monkey Planet and Hislop's show at 9 and W1A at 10.

ITV have never been much more than a bit player in television sport, with the BBC and Sky having a far bigger range of rights. A lot of older people will remember when ITV only had horse racing( admittedly the coverage was good), wrestling, a bit of football and not much else. Once the three big football contracts end next year, it will be England qualifiers and the rugby union world cup and little else on the main channel as stuff like IPC Cricket isn't mainstream enough.

They could test the British Touring Cars on the main channel. I think it should be as hardly anyone knows about it.

Good idea and I was thinking maybe ITV should try and get some horse racing back when the contracts is negotiated next year, as they have covered this well in the past. Something like the Grand National could do very well for them.

Very good result tonight in the football for Itv and Sky. Potential semi final game against Madrid/United/Munich/Barca will be very lucrative.

Thanks for the reminder! Completely forgot it was on. TV-AM looked fun

Yes, there will be a couple of very lean sporting years on ITV after the Champions League finishes for them-then it will down to their appetite for top sport as to whether they want to get involved again.

No-will have to try and catch up. I was a teenager and unemployed when Breakfast TV started and not used to getting up before 9.00am -but I did make a special effort for the first BBC show and made a point of watching it all. For anyone who wasn't around back then, it was a huge novelty to have that kind of show around the eggs and bacon.
As I recall BBC won the early battles for viewers against the odds-interestingly with a very relaxed informal style. All down to Selina imo

IPC is off to Sky next year.

We've had this explained to us dozens of times, and no amount of whining is going to change it, so can we please not have any further squealing the next time a sport not on ITV gets good ratings, whether it be the Boat Race on BBC One, or the Grand National on C4 etc. Let's just accept that's the way the sports rights market is, and let's also accept it without any "Yeah, but"s.”

Sorry, that was my fault. Don't think it was a bad discussion compared to some we have on here but maybe I'm wrong with that.

As for the Britain's Got Talent finals week discussion, wouldn't it be easier for ITV to air the semi finals from Sunday 25th May - Thursday 29th May, take a break for the football on the Friday and hold the final on the Saturday? Or am I missing something which prevents this?

As for last night; a strong start for Undeniable. Emmerdale and Coronation Street (particularly episode one) did very well for ITV. Has EastEnders lost viewers for good or are they just fragmented across different catch up devices? BBC One had a quiet night but they'll be pleased that Michael McIntyre is finding his feet. Game of Thrones put in a good performance as did Made in Chelsea. Channel 5 seem to be struggling to hit 1m at the moment. Channel 4 had a steady evening.

They cant show the last auditions show on Saturday 25th May due to the Champions League Final. The last auditions show will be on Sunday 25th may.

Yeah that works out nicely as Vera ends on Sunday 18th. As someone pointed out earlier, ITV probably deliberately got the football to kick off at 9.45pm so they could air it and BGT on the same night. Will be a big night for them!

The Call Centre was a major series for BBC3 last year and it is back tonight. Will it return strongly?

No, it'll be down from first series levels tonight. It's had far less promotion and airing on night with a major football game on. Also the novelty wore off throughout the series, it's basically a scripted reality show set in an office. Lots of it is staged, dont be fooled by it please!

Thanks, I forgot about that.

So it's going to be the same as last year then - semi-finals Monday to Thursday plus Saturday and the final the week after.

ITV4 aired a trailer of new animated comedy Warren United. its got some good names to narrate the characters, but whether the script is any good remains to be seen. Good to see ITV4 though commission a comedy, hopefully if its good it does well. It will start Tuesday 22nd April.

Its had a lot of promotion and even an ad counting down the days till it returns as well as a spot on BBC Breakfast either today or yesterday, yes it may return down but it won't be through lack of promotion.

Plus Nev was a guest on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Scott Mills this morning.

Talking about that, I see Sweat the Small Stuff is back for yet another series, even though it is poor and rates poorly. The BBC's relentless pushing of Nick Grimshaw as the next big thing continues. Maybe he could take over from Brucie on Strictly?

Glad to have reminded you. Not many TV programmes talk about BARB ratings so prominently so thought I'd flag it up in the premier DS thread.

I was one of the viewers who drifted from the BBC to TV-am over the years. Jeremy Paxman 1st thing in the morning was not a sight I relished during my teenage years. Anne Diamond on the other hand....

I know is trash, but according to the Daily Mail Claudia Winkleman is first in line to present Strictly with Tess Daley and the BBC are considering her to replace Bruce.

I'd be happy with that - I always enjoy her irreverent style on Strictly, and I think any man who replaces Bruce would always be dogged by unfavourable comparisons
