The Guess List should surely rise next week unless You've Been Framed goes into extra time. It won't have competition from Amazing Greys, Britain's Got More Talent or indeed The Masters - all of which I'm sure helped keep it's rating down last night.

I don't know when its launching, but given that BGT has just got its best launch figure and its potential audience might appeal to the same type BGT controls, I suspect it will do poorly (if it goes against Talent). It might not also appeal to BBC1's reliable older audience

Surely they should look to launch it off the back of Britain's Got Talent; I'm not sure how long the show will be but if it's ninety minutes then 8.15-9.45 followed by the lottery draw and news should be fine. The big question is whether Casualty can run 7.25-8.15 as there would be no other place for it.

Tumble wont be launching until late summer. It is going to air in the period after the Commonwealth Games but before Strictly returns. It will be given the SCD Preview lead-in for one of its episodes and will become a hit due to the stars involved.

I doubt Casuilty could air that early because of the blood and guts etc.

Have you watched Casualty in recent years? It is very tame fare indeed, with an absolute minimum of blood and gore - in fact, you'd be lucky to only get one brief glimpse of a bloody wound or scratch. This is not the same programme that it was in the late 80s / early 90s when the writing was sharp and the storylines controversial. It's soap, soap, soap these days.

They could easily transmit Casualty at 7.30pm these days with no complaints - as I think BBC One did a few years ago against a BGT final.

They would have to be complete idiots to run Tumble against BGT - not that that would stop them.
Clearly it going to be much later though - although summer would not be a great time either.

Yes I have and some episodes have had a lot of wounds on show. To me it would be to early to show it at that time when children are around.

31st May 2008 - Casualty aired at 7.45pm against BGT final
27th December 2010 - Casualty aired at 7.10pm against Monday itv soap hour

... not to mention the repeats of early series (probably edited for blood and gore back in the days when Casualty didn't shy away from such things) on the Drama Channel at 9am in the mornings

Casualty has definitely aired pre-8pm in recent years. Speaking as someone who has watched since day one, I can assure you it is nowhere near as graphic as it used to be. Some episodes may feature the odd bit of blood and gore (usually one or two fleeting glimpses) but in earlier years, you'd have lingering shots and amputations shown in detail. The worst I've seen recently is when Dr Cal performed a routine on someone's eye. Holby is more graphic with its surgery scenes and that goes out at 8pm.

Fair enough I just thought it wouldn't have fitted with that early slot.

What us Tumble? When I googled it all I got was some kids tv show called Mr Tumble. Now I am sure that is very good but I can't see it being Saturday night prime time viewing..... Then again they did have that puppet show....

Its the BBC's version of Splash only instead of diving its Gymnastics, but as I'm sure Samuel will tell you, its far superior given its on BBC1 and the 'talent involved'.

Tom Daley's presence hasn't done much for Splash or his ITV2 show and Beth Tweedles series of Dancing On Ice were the 2 lowest rated so I would suggest the format needs to be more important than the 'talent'. Plus while there will be more than just jumping off a diving board it remains to be seen how much celebs could or would actually attempt, as gymnastics isn't exactly easy.

UK TV Ratings ‏@TVRatingsUK 5s
#TheCrimsonField fell to 5.42m/23.0% for its second episode. It was still enough to beat Endeavour however (5.10m/21.7%).

The Crimson Field held up pretty well. If it can stay above 5m BBC1 have a good hit there. Endeavour a little lower than they'd like I suspect but that's still OK.

Not to bad I hope it doesn't keep dropping like Musketeers though.

Sometimes the 2hr long dramas can be a little long winded and are much better watched without having to sit through tonnes of ads. Crimson Field did well, but not quite the big hit Samuel thought. Endeavour did 'ok', but is looking a bit low (although its around a similar rating as last series).

Is Crimson Field two hours too?

....and it will get 500k-1m every time it's repeated on ITV3. ITV mystery dramas are worth their weight in gold.

Agreed. It's a pretty decent retention rate from week 1 but I hope it stabilises and this isn't the first of a gradual decline.

I can see your point and, in principle, I agree with you - Casualty belongs in a later slot. My point is, however, that it's been toned down to such an extent in recent times that they could easily broadcast it pre-8pm and I'm willing to bet no-one would bet an eyelid, given how "safe" the writers and directors are on the show now. It's not 1993 when Alan Yentob famously shifted the series 7 climax episode, "Boiling Point", from 7:50pm to 9:30pm at the last minute. Featuring blood and gore, intense violence, Holby A&E burning down and expletives, the Casualty of 2014 seems a world away from those topical, edgy days of the show.

Unlikely to happen, but it if were, would the BBC commission another drama that ends on a low?

Have they recommisioned The Crimson Field yet? Am I right in thinking the idea is to run this through to 2018, in line with the commemoration of WW1?
